Trashy Valve Stems?
#16
My 07 edge had the same problem. Tire went flat while driving on the Interstate. The tire was ruined before I could get stopped. The valve stem failed and the other three were cracked. My dealer had seen this issue before and replaced the stems and the ruined tire. Ford has not acknowledged there is a problem yet, but I definitely believe there is one. So far my 07 F-150 is ok. I have done some research and they think that up to 6 million valve stems were produced without ozone and uv inhibitors in the rubber.

I think you guys are reading too much into this.
I'm at 18 vehicles so far since I turned 16. I owned 13 of them, and the other 5 were family cars I drove also...crap...make that 19, forgot 1.
and I have never ever had an issue with a bad valve stem with any of those vehicles. flats from the following: nails, tread seperation, tacks, rocks, knife slashing, burnout to blowout...yes. bad valve stem...no

Years ago I had a stem fail on my van while I was pulling a 30' travel trailer on the freeway at 65 mph. I posted at that time about it. Since then I have all my valve stems changed to Short-Short Metal Tire Valve, Tires & Supplies - GEMPLER'S

This is legit guys. Over the past week or two, our local (Chicago)NBC (channel 5) news station as aired 2 reports about it. I will paste the link to their website below. I believe most of them are on 06 and newer vehicles.

There has been an issue on some made in china valve stems. They were made for Dill who in turn sold them by the millions to all of the manufacturers and tire wholesalers, etc. I don't think Ford or any other car manufacturer has acknowledged or issued a recall, but Dill has acknowledged a problem. This has been reported in the media, but it has not been leading story news. If memory serves me correctly, 06 and 07 was the approximate time frame for manufacture of these defective stems.

I got a letter from Ford about a week ago regarding the valve stems on my '07 Explorer. Seems they are cracking at the base of the stem, and I can return to my dealer for replacement. Maybe the valve stems on the F-150 are the same, but no letter from Ford about them.....................yet.

My 07 F150 has less than 12,000 miles on it, and I just lost my second valve stem! They both cracked on the inside edge, and leak when going down the highway. I believe that I read somewhere that there has been a problem with "made in China" valve stems failing, and I wonder if that is the problem with these Fords. These are the original tires and rims! I know that there had been a problem in the Super Duty trucks, but I'm only running 41 psi, as recommended! Has anybody else had these things go bad? I don't like to be changing tires on the side of the road because of junk valve stems............

I've never had a valve stem failure since my first vehicle in 2000. However this past Thursday, June 5th 2009 I experienced my first failure. The valve stem on my tire was also cracked near the base, it was not a slow leak either. I was really fortunate, because I had just driven 50 miles on the highway to my girlfriends house. I'm not sure if it was already happening when I was driving or once I had parked. What I do know is that my tire was almost completely flat once I came outside to drive back to my place. I put air in the tire and then quickly took it to the closest and available tire shop which ended up being Sears. Keep in mind that my tire was leaking the whole way, I slowly made my way to sears and got all 4 stems replaced. I couldn't throw on the spare cause I have bigger than stock size tires on my truck and the flat was in the left rear. I'm sure it could have been a lot worse, I definitely recommend you all check your tire stems just to be safe.
