Its the 8' bed. I'll have to agree that would be one weird looking truck. I've seen 8' beds on the 04'up F-150s and they look horrible to me. I like the Reg cabs and the little window with extra room behind the seats. (Actually almost bought a RC fulley loaded FX4 in 04'....Long story)

I have no doubt that these trucks can do it on the heavy duty it come with E rated tires and the truck are more stable than the previous years. And they are as heavy and as stable as '83 F250 Heavy Duty that I have other than load carrying in the bed

Too heavy. Not stable, inefficient. The lightest model, 4x2 short bed V-6 manual transmission calculates out to 4600lb curb weight! Your '83 F250 probably was the same, if it was a regular cab 4x2 with a small block or six. My buddy has a 90 F-150 302/AOD 4x2 SB RC with an unladen weight on the registration card of 3800lb.

in my experience the older trucks get better mpgs than the new ones,and the weight has a lot to do with it

Towing over 10K with a 1/2 ton truck is pure marketing hype much to the same degree as those Konoki foot pads on TV. I imagine the same suckers buy into this.

If FOMoCo weren't ran by retarded drunken monkeys they would have realized that selling a 1/2 truck that towed 7000lbs and got 25 mpg would allow them to absolutely rape the competition. Instead they come out with a light duty 1 ton f150 that gets 17mpg.

Yeah exactly its marketing and to make it look like it has the most towing capacity cause in reality even the 04-08 F150s are rated for 10,500 lbs but really that is a like a reg cab certain size box with 4.10 gears yada yada less towin capacity with 18 or 20 wheels to me that is a bit much to be towing with a F150 anyways safely I suppose

Finally, I see someone with the same train of thought. Peeps would be lined up around the block to buy a 25 MPG 1/2 Ton.

Times have changed. If Ford was smart, They'd totally forget about the competition, and think outside the box. America doesn't want/need another "Mine is bigger,badder, faster, than Yours truck"

We need a capable 1/2 TON truck that as efficient as possible.
If You truly need to tow 8K+, You should be in a F250+ anyways.

Actually, here is the 1st release of the owners guide. Ford won't offer the 4.10 in the '09+ models, 3.73 max. Also, the Screw 3.73 models are rated to tow 11.1-11.3K lbs (depends on wheelbase length & 4WD or 2WD), while the Rcab 4x2 5.4L HD 163" 3.73 model can tow 11.4K. Check pages 248-253. All require the Max Trailer Tow pkg. Still too much for any 1/2 ton in my opinion.

Guys, define the term "1/2 Ton" for me. I think that is part of the problem here. The other problem is that GCWR, which is the major component of towing capacity, has very little to do with payload capacity, or "tonnage". A Ranger can easily carry a 1000lb (half a ton) payload.

"Light Duty" and "Heavy Duty" are defined in government EPA emissions regulations at an 8501lb GVWR dividing line, so the marketing department cant mess with that one. The F-150 model was originally a "5/8 Ton" to get around the 6000lb GVWR EPA dividing line in the 1970's. F-100's were typically 5200-5600lb GVWR. F-250's were 7500lb GVWR.

What is funny is that after this new tow rating is released, I see people inhere talking about how it's too much for the size of truck and silliness such as "Dodge will be the only truck with a sane tow rating". Obviously, there would be tons of lawsuits if the truck weren't capable, if you feel it is not, sue Ford yourself. Fact is, it can tow this much, it's not insane, and quite frankly, it's pretty funny that the only thing naysayers have to complain about is the fact that the truck CAN tow so much compared to other trucks.

Exactly. Seems like the only ones even remotely thinking about this is Dodge. But even with 390HP and 404TQ, they are still estimating 20MPG hwy.

I'm not sure why Ford wants to push SD territory with the F150.

I guess because SD's aren't selling. The SD assembly plant here in town was down the whole month of July only works every other week and is retooling to make Expy's/Navigators.

Truck sales are down, but as the stock market plunges so do the price of gas as it is under $3.00 a gal. in some palces of SC. SO as gas mileage inproves on trucks so should sales. my '04 F150 FX4 on the highway averages about 17 mpg, and only drop to 15 when I tow my 19FT Bass boat with weights in at about 3000 + LBS.
