Im looking at a 1993 three quarter ton ford 4x4 standard cab at a local lot. The truck has 188,000 and seems to be well maintained with a five speed manual. My main concern is the truck being IDI and non turbo... I cant afford a powerstroke, but i can afford upgrades is the future.

If anyone has experience with owning one of these pickups i would love your input. I'll be using the truck as a daily driver, junk hauler for my business, towing a medium sized junk trailer etc. Do they respond well to upgrades, what should i check for while test driving? I'd love to hear anything you have to say.

One more question... would this truck have the zf five speed... will this trans hold up to an aftermarket turbo and intercooler, exhaust, water injection/propane?

 

The IDI is all mechanically controlled injection and so is easier and cheaper to service. A turbo is the way to go for performance. I would advise you to post this on the pre-powerstroke diesel forum (a bit further down from this forum). You will get plenty of diesel advice there. Good luck.
