Autoloc Hood Tilt Kit-reviews? 1954 F100
I saw this same post from last year, but no one replied. So I am asking again
Anyone have any opinion on the Autoloc Hood Tilt Kit? Compared to the CPP or the No Limit? I see it is quite a bit less $$ than the others. Any comments on ones that have worked well, or more importantly, ones that you've had problems with. Thanks for all your help on this forum.

I used the MMB kit from MF (really from CPP).. not polished, had it painted.
the difference will be,
1. your time
2. whatever mods you have to make
3.we KNOW the MMB kit will work, its just a matter of time.
it looks like from the drawings of this AL kit, that they made some assumptions on the hood profile (like flat). so you will probably have to make/remake the parts that connect to the hood braces.
I also can't tell what kind of movement choices there are for the side rollers/ catch mechanism.
this appears to be equivalent of the unfinished MMB version 2030 at $329 so, minus 189 = 140.
so how much of your time is worth $140?

I had a buddy who bought one, and we were goin to put it on. It would have taken alot of work to make it work on one of the '53 to 56 F100's. He ended up selling it. In my opinion you'd be better off and happier to save up and buy a REAL one. I'd buy one from THE MAN who made them and everyone else copied "Mike Chessser". He is in Lawrencevill GA.

I bought mine from Mike Chesser in person at the '07 Supernats. Seems he had brought a kit to the show for some guy who never picked it up. Sold it to me on the last day of the show rather than take it home. Really nice personable guy and a genius about the 53 - 56 Effies. He has a web site if you'd like to look at some of his finished projects. I'll just be glad when my project is ready to install the tilt hood!

Autoloc has some impressive ads in the magazines, but here's a thought. I stopped at a big hot rod parts supplier while on vacation last year. I was asking about bear claw latches for my F1. The salesman looks around and tells me in a low voice not to buy autoloc, buy rocky hinge instead. He said autoloc is all chinese made and doesn't hold up as well as the american made rocky, but they're not distributors for rocky, so he can't sell them to me. FWIW.

Like B/B Ford said...the universal part of this kit is why it's less expensive. I don't know what your time is worth but from what I can see from the pictures in the autoloc ad that kit is going to take some work to get it installed on a 53-56 F100. They are CYA when they say that it takes "professional installation".
