Not bad! What was that old movie with Dennis Weaver, he was a salesman or something being chased by that big black White Western?? That third pic reminds me of that movie!!

Probably used to have a drilling unit on the back.

They are much louder than most other diesels. Not sure what they are like in a truck but they do scream at you.

The front tires are 445's they prob wouldn't last too long if it were still a busy company truck but as a farm truck they should last to the end of time.
Dad paid 1700 for the old girl, he said he was going to go to 3000, there is a few little rust spots and has been parked for 2 years.

They sound something like this

That Detroit Diesel sounds great, a nice bloodcurdling exhaust note, but I have always loved the sound of a hard working 2 stroker. When I was a young lad I had a '60's Yamaha 250cc hi performance (for the time) twin cylinder, twin carb Yamaha (YDS3) that had a beautiful sounding Yowwwwwl as I ran it through the gears.

I used to run it through the gears a lot, just to hear that yowl.

We have the same engine in a farm tandem - a 1981 Western star. Ours doesnt rap quite that much nor does it smoke quite as much.

I'm thinking they got the injectors turned right up or something, that ones smokes ALOT, ours doesn't smoke at all but then we don't got much of a load at the moment.

Thats good to hear that it runs great. Is the belt problem due to worn out pulleys?

I don't know if you've noticed but the top of the hood is 7 feet tall!!! Just compare the height to my 64 Mercury.
So how different is the 81 Western Star in styling?
