Anybody know why Ford Racing 460 cast aluminum valve covers do not have a breather?

Hope that was an informative enough heading.

I have got a chance to get some new 460 Ford Racing cast aluminum valves covers but I notice that there are no holes for the breather or PCV, anybody know what’s up with that?

Thanks, Ray

Ford Racing Valve covers

I have a 460 FRP motor, and I dug out their instructions:

IS-6582-A460
"These valve covers are sold without holes for breather or oil filler caps so that the location of these items can be tailored to individual applications. A recessed area is provided at each end of the covers to locate the hole for a push-in style breather cap such as the Motorsports M-6766-B302 breather cap.

Select which end of the cover the cap is to installed in. Carefully locate and centerpunch the center of the recessed area. Use a good quality 1-1/8 hole saw to remove the recessed area. If a very snug fit is desired use a 1" hole saw and hand file to reach the final size. Remove any sharp edges with a file or sandpaper. Wash and blow out all filings.

Install a baffle plate under the hole with four self-tapping screws. DO NOT LEAVE THE BAFFLE PLATES OUT! They prevent oil from entering the breather cap and subsequently dripping on the valve cover. Baffle plates do not interfere with stud girdles or tall rocker arm nuts.

These instructions apply to the M-6582-A460, M-6582-E302, and M-6582-T351 valve covers."

I followed these instructions--as I recall--it was years ago--and bought a rubber grommet/pcv valve and installed it in the passenger side valve cover with a rubber hose to my carb port, and on the driver side also to the front I put in a similar rubber grommet and a push-in air breather cap M-6766-B302.
Everything went fine on the install as I recall-but like i said it was a few years back and I'm still working on body and paint and haven't fired it up yet. But it looks good and I don't expect any problems.
(and regarding the aforementioned "baffle plates"--I'm pretty sure they were supplied with the motor -if one just buys the valve covers? then I don't know)

Good luck Tom

Thanks guys for the replies. I missed getting the Valve Covers off eBay but it wasn’t such a good deal anyway and some more will come along. Thanks again, Ray.
