F-600 kingpin set
Hey guys, I have a 1969 F600 HD 5 yard twin piston 2 speed rear end dump truck that needs new kingpins. I took it to a shop and they quoted me $1130.00, parts labor.. I found a set of kingpins that say its for this truck with these DIMENSIONS for $260 with shipping -
1.234 x 7.44 inches ( 31.3 x 188.9 mm )
Ford F600 - 1967-1973 with double cotter pin
Anyone for sure know if this is the correct set?

1.234 x 7.44 inches ( 31.3 x 188.9 mm ) = Ford part number: B7TZ3111F .. King Pin Kit / How do you know your F600 uses this size? There are 5 different front axles listed for your truck.

There are 5 different front axles, and 3 different king pins sizes. It all depends on the weight capacity of the front axle.
The third digit of the AXLE code will tell me (and you) what that weight capacity is.
Once known...I can tell you what you want to know. (I already know by the dimensions you posted, what weight capacity axle (there's only 1) used those king pins).
The AXLE code is listed on the second line of the Warranty Plate, which is located on the left door face below the latch.
Post what you find.

Id
Here is what is on the plate on drivers door, I also need kingpin bushings installed, so when I read the answers here I checked again but I am still lost. So here it goes
131 MK F102 04 G 17
04800 140 3800 21
From a website I interpreted some of it but I got lost 17 seems to be a rear axle code, it don't seem to have ever been a # after that. I am wondering about this kingpin situation, how expensive of a repair is that? If I could get a ballpark figure so I can know if I am getting shafted.

131" Wheelbase
MK: M = Wimbledon White / K = Medium Goldenrod Yellow
F102 = F100 2WD / 4800 lbs. GVWR
04 = No such BODY (interior trim) code listed. O & O3 pertian to green vinyl interiors.
G = C4 Cruise-O-Matic
17 = Ford 9" Rear Axle / 3.25-1 / non Limited Slip / 3300 lb. Rear Axle Capacity
04800 = 4800 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
140 NET HP 3800
21 = Atlanta GA Ford District Sales Zone Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
The questions/answers in this thread pertain to an F600, which is a large 1 1/2 ton truck. This info doesn't pertain to F100's.
With a GVWR of 4800 lbs, the Ford part number for your F100's king pin kit is: C8TZ-3111-A.
The King Pin Kit is obsolete, but many Ford dealers still have stock. It's also available from Ford obsolete parts dealers...here's a couple in your area:
C8TZ-3111-A .. King Pin Kit
Wesley Obsolete Parts in Liberty KY has 17 kits: 606-787-5293 // Dale King Obsolete Parts in Liberty KY has 3 kits: 606-787-5031.

Don't want to necessarily discourage anyone from doing a kingpin job, but to do the job right, you may need some specialized tools, like a bushing reamer to fit the kingpin to the bushings once installed in the knuckles. If the kingpins are frozen (rusted) in the axle, you would gladly pay an expert to do the job. Just my 2 cents.

Here's what the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog shows for the front axle ID number. This is not the AXLE code. *
C9TA-3010-D (not DA or DC) = The front axle capacity is 5,000 lbs.
* (To be absolutely sure, you can also list the AXLE code from your trucks Warranty Plate [located on the left door face below the latch], which when decoded {I can do this}, will also give the front axle capacity).
C9TA-3010-D = C3TZ3111A .. King Pin Kit-5M / Still available from Ford
MSRP: $110.95 / FTEpartsguy.com price: $79.88

thank you
kk the warranty plate on my ford is also missing, the truck was used by a local construction company and although it has been well maintained it has seen alot of use. the only other numbers i have are the vin from the title. i am imagining that the numbers on the warranty plate and the vin numbers have little to do with one another.
anyway thank you for your quick reply. the local ford dealership hooked me up with a set of kingpins for $84 but i had to drive 70 miles to get them, machine shop has had the knuckles, bushings and pins since friday. cost me $58 to have them ream the bushings and i am hoping to get the new pins installed tuesday.
thank you to everyone that participated in this thread it was very enlightning and truely a nice experience, i have posted the website to my browser and will return to see what other interesting things you guys might post.
thanks again,

f600 king pins
I purchased a complete kingpin set including bushings from napa about a month ago. Mine is a '73 f-600 (used to be a u-haul truck) It has a 5000lb front axle. I used the brake size and configuration to help identify mine and compared it to the originals to be sure. They had many sets available for those trucks and they have pictures to compare what you have to. I'm in southeast PA and NAPA seems to be the only place that I can get almost all of the parts I've needed for that truck. might be worth checking them out.
