to all the fx4 owners

I bought an 06 fx4 from a local ford dealer a few weeks ago(love the truck) and the black plastic fender flares were really faded....they were gonna clean the truck up for me while i went home to pull the winch off my f250 to trade. when i came back the salesman told me they were gonna replace the flares under warranty for me....they put them on yesterday.... man , they really make the truck look brand new. soooo if yours are faded and still under warr. get them replaced , it makes a huge differance

I just got mine replaced last week on my '06 FX4 under warranty. I really wish they would have put the painted flares on these trucks.

I felt the same way, so I picked up a pair of Lariat takeoffs on Ebay (already painted black). Cost just over $100 and they were in perfect shape. I've seen a bunch of sets on there at times... may be worth looking into.

YEP.

mine were replaced when about 6 months old.

now, i am outta warranty, truck has 63k on it, and is 18 months old

I do manage a bodyshop, so it wont be hard for me to pull em, prime em about 5 times to fill in the texture, and paint them whatever I want.

You can quit checking on ebay because they never made the Lariat in dark shadow grey color. So you'll have to buy Lariat flares in another color and have them painted, or just paint your FX4 flares.

Just had ours replaced yesterday. Were really faded after 1 year/15000 miles. Dealership replaced and it looks ALOT better! Didn't realize how bad they'd gotten.

I have and 06 FX4 and I went to dealer number 1 yesterday and the service manager said the discoloration was from waxing the truck. I told him that the truck had not been waxed and that the plastic at the bottom of the window that goes around the windshield wipers is made of the same plastic and is also faded and discolored and that part cannot be waxed. Then he told me that he did not want to replace the trim because if he did and he sent them back to Ford for inspection and Ford found that something had been put on them they would not credit the dealer ship for replacing them. I guess I will check with another dealer ship. The service manager also told me that if I do my own maintenance on the truck to make sure I save all my receipts in case I have any problems with the motor or trans. Evidently Ford is getting more strict with the types of fluids and filters we use on our trucks. It seems they have not warrantied some services because of this. Just FYI.

Town & Country Ford in Louisville KY gave me the shaft and a similar line of BS too. The little blonde service advisor even told me some BS about the car washing soap causing the flares to fade.. What kinda crap is that? I swear, some service departments in Ford dealerships are enough to make someone want to sell their Ford vehicle just so they won't have to deal with Ford service deapartments! I will be calling another dealership too!

Just as a FYI.... I have come across a product called "Forever Black bumper & trip die" and I thought i'd share. Do a google serarch on it to find and read about it. It is getting great reviews as it doesn't seem to fade away in a few weeks like other products. I think I am going to give it a try asap.

this is true. i had it all explained to me yesterday during my '08 purchase... if there's a lack of maintenance when they say it should be done, they will refuse warranty. i don't dissagree with it though, why should Ford have to suck up somebodies bill because they didn't maintain their vehicle properly??

I see your point, I can see a dealer refuse warranty work if someone didn't change the oil in 12k miles or something like that. I just hope they don't try and rip someone for net getting a 12 point inspection done at their dealership or something..

I'm glad I have a good service department at my dealership. They know my family by name now because we have so many vehicles from them.
