Bullitt chase on mapquest

tell me something bill , as we all know weird stuff does slip out due to 'em using current inventory , how weird is that one norm had , my buddy . 68 fastback no.s matching 289 { which he still has } four speed , deluxe {?} interior . i thought the 302 replaced the 289 in 68 so my best geuss is it was an early car and like i said used up current inventory before using the new . it was highland green w/ black interior and i think it even had a/c if i remember right .
There are no numbers matching Mustangs, Galaxies, or anything else.
VIN numbers didn't appear on any of Ford's mechanical parts back then. The only places VIN's can be found is on the Warranty Plate, the VIN Plate (left front corner of the dash [visible thru the windshield] beginning in 1968), on the frames, or in the case of unibodied cars like Falcon's and Mustangs, on the core support-top, flat portion of the left inner fender apron where it attaches to the fender, or on the left fender lip where it attaches to said apron.
Many of these VIN's are missing because the sheetmetal was replaced due to accidents.
The 302 was introduced in the spring of 1968, the 289 continued till the end of the '68 model run, so after the 302 was introduced, both engines were being produced at the same time.

Scroll back up, I added more info (as usual).
I'm known as the editing king of FTE because after typing the post and submitting it...I always think of something else to add.
Sometimes when adding still more info...I run out of editing time (one hour).

Bullitt Mustang
Great link... I love the chase scene like everyone else.
My wife and I have a 64 1/2 or 65 depending on who you believe. It is a Convertible with the anemic(motor trend word) 170 with a three speed . I love the car, it belonged to my mother in law. She passed away about sixteen years ago, and my father in law decided to sell it about seven years ago. I put my hand up first. My kids didn't get to meet her and they really were cheated, but they can drive her Mustang someday. Ours was brought to N.Y. from California back in the late eighties I believe. Noting like cruising with the top down with the Beach Boys playing on the radio. I get around....

If they think that was "anemic" they would have loved my grandmother's '63 Comet wagon with PATHETIC (my word) 144-6 and 2-sp automatic... driving on vacation from Chicago to Pittsburgh. We could have walked faster up those Pennsy hills.
