Hey Guys,

Well I went and visited Kevin at Black Magic Diesel today. Nice guy. Knows his Powerstrokes. Has an early '99 himself so I trusted him to be tinkering on my truck.

Tranny passed inspection with flying colors, not one speck of metal on that magnet. Thats what I wanted to see!

Front brakes were finished, so I went ahead and had him do those while we had it up on the lift.

I have a front end clunk, and discovered its source. Bad balljoint on driver's side. D'Oh!

Anyways, overall a really good experience with him.

Oh and Adam, he says you get a discount for referral. hah.

I had to replace the ball joints on my 2000 a couple years ago, upper on the right side actually let go so I just replaced all of them while I was there.

Upper AND lower on the driver's side are shot. It needs replaced ASAP. Strange part is, it just started clunking a couple weeks ago.

Passengers is still good, so I think I might do them 1 at a time.

IIRC correctly the guys up in the 99-03 PSD section have an online link for a place selling MOOG brand top of the line ball joints for our trucks. I had already bought mine when it came up but worthlooking.

Ok just did a little searching through my bookmarks and found it. I usually do keep things like this. So here ya go on a deal for good balljoints and a whole setup for our trucks

Your Premiere Source for Ford Truck Parts and Accessories

includes the axle seals and the hard to get orings for the hub.

Thanks Rob.

My big issue is that I dont have the facilities to be doing any major work on the truck. No proper jack (thats still in Colorado) no garage, no dry floor.

The guy from Black Magic quoted me about $100 per ball joint (with grease zerk) for the cost of the part, plus labor if I wanted him to do it. I think I might just let him do the driver's side one, and maybe do the passenger's side myself this summer.

guess thats not out of range on price. I cheat I have a press so it makes it easier, but no shop yet (just spent all my home improvement money on a new roof this year so shop will have to wait till next summer)
If I had a good warm shop would just invite you down and get it done (heck make a g2g out of it and have a tech day LOL). like I said hopefully next summer will have a big enough shop to pull the trucks into (besides I don't want to build the new motor for the galaxie till I have a good shop )

LOL wow sounds like life. The second you have the money, and something you want to spend it on, something pops up to eat it all away. Dang roof!

I appreciate the thought. Hopefully by next summer I'll have a new house, and a giant shop/garage to go with it (I am eying a few houses for sale that have NIIIIIICEEE shops attached to them). If you don't have your shop done by next summer, I'll volunteer my truck and hopefully my shop for a tech day next summer to do the passenger's side balljoint!

Rob just out of curiosity, how many vehicles do you have, including the Galaxie?

I bet she was. You're beating the odds so far I'd say.

I hope this doesn't offend you, but you remind me of my dad a little bit.

He was a wrencher too, and did some crazy stuff when he was young. I usually heard the stories from my uncles when they got liquored up enough to start telling them.

Most of them involved Evil Knievel type stunts, and of course running from the police/forest rangers.
