OT - thoughts on living in Iowa?

The finniest (and saddest), though, for Colorado..are all of the "Kalis" that build their giant mansions up in the mountains and then complain about the bears and cougars, or the deer and elk eating their flowers. HELLOOOOO.. around here we get just as mad at those people as you guys get at the folks who mistreat your farmers because they are "in the way". Usually, one of those idiots will end up getting a bear or cat euthanized because it ate their little poodle Fifi. I say we're all better off without Fifi. Every now and again we'll plan a weekend up in the hills camping, shooting, quadding, fishing..and we'll have a run in with a granolified (we call these yuppies "granolas") yup who gets all upset with us because, God forbid, we are shooting REAL guns, or riding our quads around and disturbing their peaceful nature. Yep, they love nature alright, unless it's in their front yard, and then they call someone to have it euthanized.
Have you guys ever heard that country song "International Harvester"? This conversation reminds me of that. Farmer trying to get his tractor down the road to the other side of his property and all the cars are honking and flipping him off.
I'm not sure I would classify myself as city folk. I spent most of my childhood in the mountains, so I am more of a mountain kid. Never did care much for the crowds and malls and gobs of people.

It is a little different the way everyone will wave at you when driving down the road. With my previous job, I'd spend a bit of time in Texas. Driving down there and back and just being down there, not many people would wave. I'd get home and it'd catch me off guard that someone would wave as they passed.

Thanks guys
Cyclones, Hawkeyes, I hear there is a bit of a rivalry going on there?
Randy is a Cornhusker, and he made some mention about a rivalry between one of the schools in IA and NE..but I didn't pay much attention because I am a CSU ram and we hate the huskers too..lol.

What's the difference between a porcupine and Kinnick Stadium??

Smokin':
Ward Colorado is still the most Deliverance type creepy backwoods place I have ever been. Not that far from Boulder toward Estes.

I swear the town of Kremmling, CO has the most teethless women I've ever seen in one place..
HA! I've never been in a small town cafe/gas station/store/etc. where someone wasn't talking about what someone else was doing/had done/shouldn't of been doing! I know thats not what you meant Roger, but the small towns around where I grew up, EVERYBODY knew what EVERYBODY else was up to.

Ward - the long story. I've seen allot of run down towns full of one-tooths, but Ward un-nerved me. The main road was lined with all years of junked cars and everyone had the same long greasy hair - everyone. We stopped for coffee and I got the feeling that if we stayed too long, we might not make it out. Like disappear, and our truck would wind-up along the road with all the other derelict vehicles - like in some cheesy HBO movie! NO JOKE - I didn't drink my coffee until 30 minutes later and my wife was still OK. Oh yeah, and on our way out, there was a 3 legged dog.
I gotta post a pic of that place so the other guys can see what I'm talking about.

I found a few online.
I also read that apparently, the locals in Ward actually encourage "junk" because it keeps the visitors out and discourages people from moving there.
Check it out: Ward, Colorado - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

LOL! Sam you crack me up. I went back and read your post about derelict vehicles and 3 legged dogs, and it made me laugh all over again.
But, I think Wiki gave a pretty good explanation of why your experience there was so odd.
Boulder is to such the other extreme - liberalists and environmentalists and commercialism galore..i'm sure all of the eccentric ones gravitate towards Ward.
We have some unique towns. I'm sure you all have heard that Trinidad, CO is the sex change capitol of the world.
Maybe all the anomalous folk gravitate towards the mountains because they think not as many people will notice them here, and they can escape the homogeny of the real world.

One other Iowa fact: the beer is the same 'octane' no matter where you buy it - in case you or Randy are beer consumers. (Something that upset me greatly about CO. - I unknowingly grabbed a 12 of 3.5% beer for camp.) But we do have a .05$ bottle/can deposit law - don't recall if CO had one or not.

Yeah, 3.2 beer. They sell it in all of the grocery stores and gas stations, because it's illegal to sell liquor or real beer there. Only true liquor stores are allowed to carry that stuff. Strange I realize. Up until this past July, it was illegal to sell any kind of liquor on Sunday.
The 3.2 beer was just here because the law doesn't apply to beer under a certain percentage of alcohol.

Yea, that'd be ISU, both are in the Big 12. You'll be surrounded by Hawkeye fans here in eastern Iowa, since U of I is in Iowa City. But I think you'll find that the Cyclone fans are much nicer and better tailgaters!!

Hey guys!
Well I'm here! Been here for a few weeks actually.
I have an actual valid question for you guys.
I have quite a bit of work I need to do to the powerstroke. I need to change the oil, tranny fluid, filter, and I have a swaybar bushing I need to replace.
As you all know, its been a bit nipply outside. I have a nice garage here at the rental house, unfortunately, the truck is 7'8" and won't fit.
Anyone know of a nice heated garage I could borrow, OR, a reputable shop that can be trusted with work on a 7.3L?
Any help would be truly appreciated.
