Thumbs up 410 Merc

I just bought a '71 F250 2x Ranger.........

The guy supposedly was going to swap in a '65 410 Merc years ago. He ended up ruining that block somehow while rebuilding it, so he put the 410 innards into the 390 block that was in the pickup. So, I measured the piston stroke on it (Idea thanks to FTE Forums) and it measured out to be around 3.9". I remembered from here that around 3.75" was a 390 and more than that was the 410/428 stroke. He said he would guaranty it was a 410 but words aren't always good....

Now I have the 410 I have been wanting for a few years. Now what to put it in, too many options....

All a 410 is, is a 390 with a 428 or 410 crank with the 3.98" stroke in it. So with a 410 rotating assembly in a 390 block, you have a 410 torque machine.

Yup

My dad built a 410 out of his 390 (428 crank) about 7 yrs ago, torque monster could be an understatement. It will out tow most stock diesels. Sounded good in the woods too when wound out blastin' through the trees in the mud.

That is why I have been looking for one. I wanted more than a 390 could give on the same budget. I just happened to be lucky enough to find a complete engine. Now I just have to finish my last semester of school and get a real job so that I can afford to build it....
