Truck dead in Missouri - cranks but won't start

1999 F250. Engine oil I believe is full - I checked it yesterday but will check again. Drove to Missouri to pick up a trailer and made it 10 miles on the way back home to Michigan. Stop to eat and when we came back the truck won't start. These are the symptoms and what I've tried.

- Engine spins fast
- No smoke from tailpipe
- Remove fuel bowl cover turned key and no fuel pumping to bowl
- Ran wires direct to the pump and it works
- When pump is wired direct truck still doesn't start
- No RPMs on gauge when cranking

Any ideas what else I should check or what it might be? Truck was running perfect and getting great mileage before this happened.

Let's start with the basics. What year truck? Engine oil full? Does the WTS light come on for a few seconds then go off like normal? All other dash lights acting normal? When you turn the key on, can you hear the fuel pump come on for 20 seconds? If not, don't bother trying to crank you've got a circuit that's not powered up and the truck won't start. It has nothing to do with the fuel pump. The PCM is not telling it to come on. Also the fuel bowl is not supposed to fill with the lid off since the lid pushes the stand pipe down to allow fuel flow.

Start by checking fuses. If you're lucky it's just a no WTS light and a blown fuel bowl heater.

I edited the original post with info. I will check again for the pump kicking on when the key is turn. I don't recall the WTS light coming on. I'll go get some more info.

Check your #30 fuse under the dash. Also check all the 30 amp maxi fuses in the block under the hood.

There is no WTS light and the fuel pump does not seem to turn on when the key is turned on. I checked all the fuses and everything looks good. Oil reads full on the dipstick but I just changed it before the trip and I only had to put about 12-13 quarts in for it to read full. This is the first oil change I've done on the truck since I bought it three months ago.

No WTS light, unless ur truck is an 02 or newer in which it wont have a wait to start light it has a coil, is likely the Fuse Pete spoke of 30 amper, caused by a short in the fuel bowl heater, disconnect it, and replace the fuse you should be good to go.

The engine cranks really well (and fast) - we are in kingdom city. Anyone know what number the 30 AMP fuse is under the hood. I checked the big ones and they looked ok earlier.

You need to look in the cabin fuse box below the steering wheel. It's fuse #30 for fuel bowl heater.

It's going to be in the cab #30, not on of the MAXI fuses

None of the fuses look blown. The cover and owners manual are missing from the truck. Could anyone describe where the fuse is for this - like third one from the bottom in the middle row. What amperage fuse am I looking for?

It will blow either. I only know because I've blown both. And both times I was pulled back to our shop by a Chevy 1500 gasser... a guy doesn't forget that. Don't just look at the fuse while it's in the holder. Pull it out and look at it then put it back in and move on to the next. The night before I was supposed to leave for RRE 2009 my truck quit on me. I was tearing into anything I could find when it was actually a bad 30amp Maxi under the hood all along. Give all your fuses a check but I'd bet that it's the #30 fuse or whatever maxi under the hood provides power to the PCM and fuel bowl heater.

Edit: Look for a 30 amp fuse under the dash middle row at the bottom.

Under the hood look for a 30 amp Maxi fuse there's not many to check and to be honest I don't remember which one it was so just check all of those.

Well if it cranks it's not a cps. I would say get some fuses and replace the fuse. Just cuz it looks fine doesn't mean it works. Fuses are cheap enough.

Good luck!

If this would be a fuse that would be awesome because I'm out on the road and at the mercy of the vultures.

If someone can look up or do me a huge favor and photo which fuses I am looking at changing out, that would be more than awesome. You know, in the morning
