I guess I have committed a cardinal sin

I personally think trail blazers are ugly as sin. The GM equivalent (the Envoy) looks a great deal better.
I'll tell you this, Envoy/Trailblazers, stock are just about worth less off road. My dad's envoy (4.2, AWD/4x4), got stuck completely on about 6 inches of snow, because the frame got caught on the snow, coupled with the open differentials, just horrible. There is so little ground clearance on them, you can't even get under the vehicle at all, and the tires are worthless for snow traction. For something billed as a capable offroad/on road machine, seems pretty sad that you have to dig it out of 5-6 inches of snow.
My dad has never had any real problems with it, but the check engine light does enjoy to come on randomly then go off a few days later

My dads silverado gets stuck on flat ground in the winter. Thats what the 4x4 is for. Our last f350 diesel work truck however drove like it was on rails on the ice. Never got stuck on flat ground. You would be surprised how many makes get stuck in a flat driveway with just a few inches of snow. Chevy seems to be a pretty big sinner on this one. Seen dodge short bed half tons stuck on flat driveways too. My mid 90s ford truck did it too. Some makes do some makes dont but dont be thinking its just the trailblazers.
Engine light coming on and off can be the evap system. Make sure you hear the fuel cap click a few times when you twist it on.

That Envoy still wouldn't get out of the snow. I still don't get what is so great about those Envoys/Trailblazers, the interior fit and finish isn't that great, they get extremely poor mileage (about 4-8 MPG worse then the Bigger durango and the same size-ish explorer.)

Not when its only 5-6" of snow, and you have a so called Sport Utility Vehicle thats so low the ground, the whole undercarriage gets stuck on the snow. Even my mom's little Toyota Rav4 has higher ground clearance then the envoy.

Dood! I drove a pontiac grand prix fwd in 18 inches of snow and it had the ground effects crud on it.
If you spin yourself a hole then you are screwed regardless of what your driving. Password is nokian hakkapalita ice and snow tires. Not those supposed 4 season ones but actual season specific tires. You dont mud bog with all seasons baby. Try starting out in second. Most ford vehicles have a 1st gear lockout for this purpose. Chevy not so much.
