I recently purchased a used 1996 Ford Ranger XLT 2.3L. I pulled the transmission (4R44E) out and found a set of bad friction and steel clutch plates in the forward clutch. They were basically stuck on the forward ring gear and I had to gently pry them off. I then purchased a kit and replaced all the plates for intermediate, forward, reverse clutches. Physically speaking all the hardware (Sun gears, planet gears, etc.) looked good. I didn’t bother replacing anything else.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> My problem now is drive, L2 and L1 will not work properly. To inch the truck forward I have to speed up the truck on 3000 RPMs before it will move. Reverse seems to respond fine.
<o></o> Any thoughts on where I should look next?
