Has anyone converted to an oil bath air cleaner? I have an '86 F-350 that is going to be uses 90% on dirt roads and off road. I am worried that the stock air filter will not hold up under these extremely dusty conditions. I have seen larger trucks with a oil bath set up on the fender. I am wondering if I could adapt something on a smaller scale?
Before I would ever consider an oil bath type air cleaner I would try to get a dual element type dry filter off of an agricultural tractor or combine harvester. These are designed to work in extreme conditions and are a lot safer than an oil bath. Just my 2 pennies.

They usually have a snorkel that comes up and uses some kind of fin system to get the dirt to settle on the outside, leaving only air to go down to the main air filter. at least thats how it is on the older big tractors.
On my IH combine they use an outer dry filter with an inner dry filter. It has a dust trap for large particles which I have to clean every 100 hrs in very dusty conditions. I would consider this as being in extremely dusty conditions and this is the setup. (from Lazy K suggestion)
i had a 66 mercury M-350 with an oil bath 352. i dont know good it worked but it sure was messy. i pitched it into scrap bin and replaced it with a regular set up from a newer truck
