That's right. Providing that you find an audiophile stereo in the correct size, with the correct mounting configuration (they are out there but kinda few & far between) you can get an adapter cable to adapt the older style (so called "world plugs") to the newer audiophile (a.k.a. "phase 2") plugs. Here's one...

Thanks alot for that adapter link. I'm gonna get one and get a newer radio. I didn't know that was an option.

Thanks for telling me that those world plug escape radios don't do the "station ID" info. Guess I gotta get me a phase II one.

Excellent write-up! Reps sent.

I have been wanting to play my MP3s but my stereo does not do that (it is the 6-CD changer in the dash though). My CD changer is on it's last legs (punching the dash isn't as effective as it used to be) and this is moving up my list of "to-do" items. I have been using my iPod with an FM tuner transmitter but that's pretty much junk at best. I don't really want to buy an aftermarket stereo since I don't really plan on going crazy with the system. Just something that has some good power coming out of the head unit. Plus the stock look deters any would-be thieves since nothing I've done changes the appearance of the truck (I still have the stock wheels too).

Is there a chart or list of some kind that shows what Ford stereos are MP3 compatible and which plug configuration they fit? Or is there a link I don't know about to a thread that already has this and I'm looking like a fool ?

If not, I'm going to have to start cruising eBay looking for a double din Ford Stereo (6 CD preferable, I've been spoiled...and yes I know that 1 CD will hold over 100 MP3s) with "Folder" buttons on it.

Unfortunately in '05 they went with a much fancier interior, including a newer head unit design that's just a bit taller than the double din design I have, otherwise I would have already PM'd you!

Thanks anyway.

Jason, I have a dumb question. Does that radio play mp3s from a CD? I looked at the manual and I assume yes, but you know what they say about assuming things...

I found this a few days ago. Maybe it will help you find a radio that will fit: http://www.issford.com/issford/radio_guide.pdf

Yes it does. You can separate them into different folders (rock, country, etc) and select the individual folders on the disc. I think I usually get something like 100ish songs on one disc.

I found that too, but it doesn't really cross-reference years of compatability. After seeing the pictures of the Escape ('06-'07) units, I wanted one of those since it looks exactly like mine. I just wanted to be able to play MP3s (plus my CD changer is about done for) and snag an Audiophile if I could get it. I saw a few this last weekend and bought this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...i%3D1&viewitem=

I didn't feel like getting in a bidding war, not to mention I found one where the bidding STARTED at $150. Most of the ones cheaper than $100 to start didn't look so good anyway (or weren't the Audiophile). Now I don't have to get an install kit or an adapter...straight plug and play. As an added bonus I was able to get an Audiophile unit (higher power) and hopefully the speed sensitive volume works too (I thought it was kind of dumb until I rode with my dad in his truck). The best part is I can change it out on my lunch hour when it arrives. I though about going aftermarket (with a USB port), but I'm not going to expand much more than I have now (except maybe some new speakers).

There was one I almost entered a bid on, but passed for the one I got. It's an Audiophile 6 CD in-dash with MP3. If anybody's interested here's the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ford-Audiophile-...d=p3286.c0.m14

The item doesn't end until 7:17pm tonight (Pacific Time).

I thought about starting a new thread to this but I decided to just add to this one.....

Today I installed a PIE adapter to my stereo so that I can use the "SAT" input as an aux audio input.

I mounted a 3.5mm jack to the dash so I can use a double-ended 3.5mm plug cable to attach the audio device.

Works like a charm.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I have been looking for an audiophile radio for months and I finally got one! For $65 too!

Audiophile 6 disc in-dash headunit: FORD:eBay Motors (item 250539711706 end time Dec-06-09 14:03:06 PST)

Now I gotta get the wiring adapters. Thanks for all your help and advice, guys.

Nice score! Audiophile units in that size, with that mounting style are a bit hard to come by. Particularly for $65!
