'55 F-100 Cowl panel install

I'm putting a full length cowl panel on the driver side of a '55 F-100. Does the top seam take some type of sealer and how would it be put in if I'm mig welding it on the inside ? It was filled with bondo when I took it apart and couldn't tell how it was originally done. Would I be better off welding it from the outside, then smoothing and painting it ? Could eliminate water leak problems in the future. Thanks for all input, Joe

The original panel was spot welded in a position that you won't be able to duplicate with the mig. I welded mine solid on the outside and will smooth them over with filler.

Cowl panel

Thanks for the info. It is the seam in front of the driver door by the upper hinge. Looked to me like it could be mig welded from the inside and sealed however the factory did it. Weld and smooth may eliminate a bunch of head aches though. Sorry I don't know how to post a pic from my camera to here.

got it. that is the cowl to front outer corner seam.

Its a tight fit, but I think you can get a mig torch in to spot these two panels together from the inside. I'll have to go look at my 55 as the kick panels are still open. I know we welded my seams closed for smoothness.
