Broken hot/cold adjustment cable.....

If it ain't broke.....change stuff till it is!

While trying to change the hot/cold adjustment cable last winter, it snapped off just before the wire enters the plastic cover that runs througout the dash. I tried to follow it, and remove the end from the metal pole that sticks up from behind the dash(where the wire wraps around a plastic tube like thing). is there a trick to removing the adjustment wire? it's a wire that slides inside of a plastic outter coating....any help would be great...

You have to replace the whole wire-tube assembly. I did it for my ranger and it only cost about 8 bucks for the part from the local ford dealer. Its a pain to change though because you do have to take apart most of the dashboard. (at least i did on my ranger)

I know i have to replace the cable. i already pulled the glove box out and found where the cable runs. the question i have, is hot do u disconnect the dang thing from the back of the hot/cold lever, and the long metal rod it connects to in the dash. i couldn't get them off no matter how hard i pulled and twisted. i plan to pick one up at a junk yard for like $3 or so, if i can get this one out. i followed it from the lever to a metal rod that sticks out of the back of the dash, and when the cable is pulled or pushed, it turns. do i have to take the whole rod out, or does the cable mysteriously slip off of it?
