Can the Crown Vic computer control a Mustang or F-150 motor?

4.6 3v or 5.4 3v?

Well, for an update, nothing on the truck. But ive spent a pretty penny on having my back yard paved, and getting an 80 gallon ingersol rand compressor, hobart 210 welder, hobart 550i plasma, and 4 foot gas bottle. I did the project car shuffle and have my 79 camaro in the crampted garage, working on it. I have all the parts to finish it than I do the truck.

I ditched the megasquirt and will go with a Ron Francis wiring kit that allows me to use the stock ECU. I will then use a rebel wiring kit for the rest of the truck. Ill also run a classic auto air A/C system.
I did pick up a 2001 Lightning seat that is in great shape. Not much else to report.

Ford 4.6 & 5.4 Wiring-Ron Francis Wiring

And this is Ron Francis wiring, Detail Zone complete wiring for Ford 4.6 and 5.4 motors. You do not need any wiring from the donor vehicle. Each connection is plugged in and ran back to the junction box. That junction box plugs into your stock ECM and its done.

The only reason why I found this is because I spotted a clean 50's Ford truck with a N/A cobra motor. got to talking to the owner and he put me onto this company. they are just over the river from me in PA. They also use high grade automotive wiring. Ive talked to their tech at Ron Francis and he assured me that you do not need any of the stock wiring.

I did tout megasquirt as my option for this build, but after finding Ron Francis, I am sold after seeing it installed. To be able to use the stock ECU and not have to worry about retuning a motor, makes it all that much easier. If I were doing a motor that did not have a stock ECU or it was completely built around utilizing the Megasquirt I would go that route.

yes ron is good but compare prices cuz i think that painless has the same stuff. i was showing DIYautotune for the tuning aspect and the removal of emission equipment and no need for the stock ecu that will pop up trouble codes that may couse running issues

I see your point.
Just checked Painless for a kit that will plug and play with the stock ECU and couldnt find one. <--If you have a link to a kit that would work on my 4.6L DOHC Mach1 motor I am all ears, as Ron Francis is the only one I know about, and ive spent more long sleep-less nights searching all over the 'net for one, and it took me to talk to someone at a car show to find the Detail Zone kit.
I understand that the price is a bit of a shock, but do the math for a complete pre-built MegaSquirt with all of the other stuff that is needed to run it, then account for time needed to tune and retune the MegaSquirt. Using the stock stuff, your ahead of the game IMHO. It took me buying and building a Megasquirt system, and countless hours wading through all of the information on the 'net on how the system works to realize that it wasnt for this build no matter how much I wanted to use it.
Emissions can be programmed out of the stock ECU.

they wired up a merc motor on "trucks" in the project rolling thunder. Ford racing also makes a stand alone set up for the 4.6 3 v. I think if i win the lotto I'll just go with one of the new 5.0 motors.

The company who provided the harness for the Trucks build was Dunn-Rite Performance and here is a link to the harness.

I have a 72 F-100 I am planning on doing a full suspension and drive-train swap on myself. Thanks for the very informative thread.

Update is that there will be action on this build this year. Returning from another deployment right now. Also back in 2010, my wife told me it was one or the other to build, the Camaro or my F100, having more parts for the Camaro, I side lined the truck. Hope to have the Camaro done this year as I have a room full of parts waiting for me to get home and put on the car.

Having multiple projects is not fun (I also have a Duster). Wish I had stuck out the truck build back in 2008. But it all happens for a reason. I havnt given up and still have everything for my truck build. Stay tuned!
