If it's dieseling then it could be the idle adjustment is set to high or something else is holding the throttle plates open too much. Or it could be carbon buildup in the compression chambers. If it is running on ignition then possibly a worn or misadjusted ignition switch.
If the automatic choke is not opening fully, adjust it to where it does. If it opens fully then it's not the problem. Just take off the aircleaner and look.
it could be bad gas, because right now no one knows what you are putting in the tank. just like the 70's, for example i drive a truck and i bought fuel at on place and i got 5.8 miles to the gallon i bought fuel at another place that i get fuel and drove the same place as i di before and i got 6.7 miles to the gallon. so the fuel at some place might not be top grade you could be buying and lower grade fuel never know it and it is top low of octane and it is cause the engine to diesel, i would try buying gas at anouther location for a couple of times and see if that helps or buy some octane boost and see if that helps, if not then i would do a tune up on the truck and check timing
