Doesn't matter, as it can be Mounted either way, so "olde Man" Johnson mounted it this way to be less likely to be hit by road debris & breaking the globe.

Oh, by-the-by, did y'all notice the FENTON Valve Cover & the OFFENHAUSER Intake?
I've an OFFENHAUSER Valve Cover & a FENTON Intake to Match it which ever way I decide to go, Fenton V/C & Intake or Offenhauser V/C & Intake.
