aftermarket cruise control

It all depends on how it works. Most newer vehicles have a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) that means you don't have to add magnets to the drive shaft or tap any vacuum lines. Then the actuator it the other difficult part, you will need to mount the actuator to the fender or top of the motor, then attach the linkage to the throttle body. Hopefully the TB already has a stud to tie to.
After those little problem areas it's just mounting the brain and the controls, and running a few wires. Some vehicle have everything in place but the controls, unfortunately the body control module has to be reprogrammed to make it work.

I installed an Audiovox (I think) cruise control in my 92 Escort many moons ago. It was a simple matter of mounting the actuator, supplying vacuum, installing the cable and hooking up the small switch unit inside the car. No reprogramming of anything needed. I think that what ReAX is talking about is adding a factory cruise control to a vehicle that didn't come with it. I added an aftermarket unit.

Audiovox and rostra are both pretty good. On vehicles with a VSS, I'd find a VSS cruise kit so you are using a constant speed and only need to pick up the VSS wire for speed sense.
Right, the reprogramming is something that has to happen if you want to activate the factory cruise. Some vehicles come with the throttle body actuator factory installed, but they don't put in the controls. For those, you add the factory switches and most need to be flashed to accept those controls. Straight aftermarket is speed sense, power and throttlebody control.
