horn repair/rebuild questions

Does anybody on here know of a company that repairs or restores the electric horns found on our era of pickups originally? I have a pair of sparton horns and the high side will not adjust as per the shop manual. The low tone one is within specs and sounds great. Any help would be appreciated. If it makes any difference I'm looking at a 12 volt horn.

Hi C2C,

12V, 6V no matter, I'm using 6 Volt trumpets on a 12 Volt circuit. Needs a 12 volt relay and they are quite a bit louder on 12 volts.

I fixed my horns and actually cut down a second set to complete the cord (so now I have 4 of the big trumpets in my horny little F1 - tee hee). What a MANIAC!

Seriously, as I recall, those are adjusted by points gap (and a good ear). Maybe your points are burned. Did you try cleaning them with a points file or pinch and drag a piece of 280 wet/dry between the points?

Also, clean everything in there really well. Dirt, dust and old hard WD-40 will "tighten" them up too.

Just a thought

J!

When I rebuilt my Sparton Horn I put a new resistor in it to adjust the tone. I don't remember to exact value but is was either 1 or 2 Ohms.

Good Luck
