1953 F100 and F250 brake/wheel differences...

Hey guys!

Its been a long time since I have had spare time to work on my project F250 (215 I6, 4 speed) but I am making great process. The engine is ready to be pulled for a hot tank and mild build.

Right now I am trying to figure out my brake situation. Brake drums for the F250 are long out of production and I haven't had great luck at junk yards finding a useable set.

My current plan is to convert the whole truck to F100 hardware, ie, 5x5.5 lug. The rear end should bolt right up without too much drama, once I find one.

Looking through the 1953 ford truck shop manual, it would appear that the only difference betweent he F100 and the F250 is the fact that the F250 has a larger 8 lug wheel hub, other than that the front hardware is mostly the same. Can anyone verify this? The part numbers are the same throughout except for the hub.

So, if I were to convert the front to disk brakes, what, if any, hardware would I need to scavenge from an F100 to convert my F250 to 5x5.5 up front, with disk brakes?

Do you know if the F100 Central 5x5.5 disk brake kit will work on my front spindles (I think I am using the right term...) or will I need any extra F100 parts?

any idea on how many pounds that rear end is? DHL or UPS shouldn't be TOO bad...I will give Terry a call tomorrow

I'm more familiar with the F1-F3 trucks. I know on those that any brake kit that will fit an F-1 will also fit F2's and F3's. I'm reasonably sure the same is true for 53-56's so you should be able to buy a 53-56 F100 disc brake kit that will bolt on to your F-250. If you buy the complete kit you would need no other hardware from an F-100.

disc brakes

I used a standard disc brake conversion kit for an f100 54 on a 54 f250 with no problems, spindles & bearings were the same size.Used Ford pickup rotors with 5"x5-1/2" bolt pattern,no problem

Another possibility, if he does it, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...-for-f100.html

he is getting a F250 he doesn't want parts from.. maybe the drums are ok?
depends on where you want to go today!
