Seatbelt Retractor Going Out!

My driver side belt retractor has decided to give it up 3 weeks after the warranty expired. Funny thing is my old '99 F150 had the same problem, you'd think I'd be looking for signs of it. Anyway has anyone else had this problem and how would you go about fixing it. Is the spring adjustable or do you have to replace it? Also how do you access and remove the cover. Appreciate any help.

They won't sell parts for a seat belt retractor. That would create tons of safety issues. You'll have to buy a new one, which is probably damned expensive, or find one in a salvage yard.

look thru your owners manual. on some cars/trucks "safty" items like emisions items have longer warranty.

the part is covered under this

Safety Restraint System
Your vehicle’s safety belts and airbag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) are covered for an extended Safety Restraint Coverage Period, which lasts for 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

Thanks ya'll! That helps alot. I had taken it to the dealer and they said it wasn't covered since the 36/36 warranty just expired. The additional coverage some how slipped by me.
