Cragar SS on a 74 4x2

I'm looking into putting some Cragar SS wheels on my F100. The Summit Racing website says that SS "Will not fit 1973-77 Ford pickup front hubs. All Ford vans and pickups with a 5-5.5" bolt pattern will require 1/2" spacers and 1" long lug nuts on the front wheels." Does anyone know what kind of modifications would have to be made in order make the wheels fit? I'm surprised that even with the spacer there is an issue. I know that I have seen mid 70's Ford trucks with SS wheels. All the people at Summit can tell me is that according to Cragar they won't fit. I've emailed Cragar with no response.

The 5-5.5 will limit your selection of wheels. I had to special order mine it took 6 months to get them and never did get proper center caps. If they offer 5-5.5 the part that they say that wont fit is the outside machined diameter of your front hub. If you realy want those wheels and this is the issue than if your in good graces with somebody with a brake lathe than you can turn this to a smaller diameter with caution. I to wanted the Cragar version of what I have now but it was not available for my lugs. Running spacers is not recommened. A word of caution: Look at the caliper retaining bolt. If it has a hex bolt head it may gouge into your wheels and an alternate bolt may be in order.

I ran Cragar SS's for about 5 years. Just bolted them on and drove.

Thanks for the advice. Great looking 74 by the way. I would be tempted to get the same wheels if ARE offered a 15X10 in those for the rear. I guess I'll have to continue to look for another style.

I am going with the summit 180 wheels , the ones with the holes , they make a 8, 10 , 8s have a nice 3.75 backspacing and will tuck in nice , going with 8s all around since the tens dont have the right backspacing for my flareside . They make a ton of rims for our trucks at summit , just type in 5*5.5 bolt pattern and size rim 15 etc and width and backspace and will pull up all the brands , these wheels are only $99 bucks .

I have a set of Cragars on my 76. I had to put a spacer on to clear the dust caps. the caps also needed a bit of adjustment.

Thanks for all of the input guys. After all of that I've decided to go with Centerline Telestars. I was able to see 15x10 in the Cragar SS right next to the Telestars and I like the polished aluminum look better for my application. The work on my truck is set to begin this weeks. I'll post some pics of the progress.

you should look at JEGS High Performance - Your source for Edelbrock MSD Holley Mr. Gasket Moroso
they have a one piece SS that is chromed and has the proper back spacing
the site states it fits "most" trucks

Please post a link of where you found these as I was looking at those as well and Centerline said they didn't offer our lug pattern.

I ordered them from summitracing.com. They are 15x7 (5x5.5) with 4" backspacing. They are on backorder though...

I should also mention that those are for the front. The 15x10s for the rear are going to be 5x4.75 because I using 35 spline Mosers that are that pattern. I don't know if they offer the 5x5.5 in a 15x10.

I'm also looking to get some new wheels for my 76 F-100 and discovering the styles are limited by the bolt-pattern.....Grrrrr. Most of the wheels I like aren't available, so I guess I will have to settle for the limited selection. Good thread.

can you not just have these wheels mounting surface machined to accept the lip on the front hubs?? Cost $10 a rim. Are there any other issues??
