Theres no production figures I could find on 1965 4X4s, but 66 is as follows : F100-flareside = 839 , styleside = 4,493

F250-flareside = 1595 , styleside = 3,559

Though theres no figures for 1965, I firmly believe the numbers for them would be low also.

Just to clear things up a bit on flareside/styleside definition...

According to my 66 salesman book the styleside box with the lines that match the cab and front end was used on the F100, F100 4X4 and F250

The single wall box with the 57-60 lines was used on F250 4X4 and F350

Flareside is the fat fendered bed...in GM terminology, stepside.

Also, just so you know you are looking at a factory 4WD, the VIN will ALWAYS begin with F11 for a 1/2 ton and F26 for a 3/4 ton, F10 and F25 are 2WD trucks.

66 is the only year the new 64 66 bed was used on 4x4s and only on the F100 in long or short bed.

All F250 4x4s were long bed in either flair side or old style side 57 to 63 bed. Frame for the F100 till 65 and F250 to 66 were still the same basic frame and accessories as the first factory unit in 59. (highboy style with a flat frame and divorced case).

You could have a short bed 61 to 65 on F100 4x4s but only in flare side configuration. (most went to the forest service)

All factory early ford 4x4s are rare compared to regular prouction. almost less than Hemi Cudas....LOL, but not quite worth as much.

839 4X4 66 F100 Flaresides were made...no split of long or shortbed...check the VIN on the frame to be sure its a true original 4WD...topside of passenger side framerail about 12 inches in front of the engine crossmember. it will appear similar to this :

*F11DR123456*

The door may well have been changed over time..and as low of production as these were I would verify the frame is the original as peeps like to put later year frames, etc under the older body...

Any production number you come up with you could certainly cut 2/3 off accounting for accidents, rusted out, plain old scraped trucks. That would leave approx 1/3 left "somewhere". A lot happens over a 45 year period, just a thought...

All the 66 4x4's F-100 I've owned (3) have all been long beds but the things I found on them is that the frame rails were all boxed forward of the cab, they all have high pinion dana 44 front axles.

I have read that there were 839 made. Mine is a long bed. I was wondering aboutt he break down between long and short bed. Thank you! It is all Original. I am the third owner. My grandfather purchased it used in the 70's. It came to me last summer.

Way cool to have something like that from your grandfather and that you know most of it's history. I'm the third owner of the one I have and have had it 22 years. As far as that production number goes it could be true, I've read that the total F-100 4x4 production was around 2400. Post your VIN and I'm sure you get a break down from the guys on here so you know what you have.

22 years that is Awesome ! I remember going ice fishing in Nebraska in mine when I was about 8 years old. I have the original bill of sale for this truck, Guaranteed Warranty card, owners manual, Quality Car Care Ownercard, all original Ford stuff. January 23, 1966 it was purchased for $3549. My grandfather later bought it from the Higgins Bros. in Valentine Ne. on September 8, 1971. VIN F11YK802852,

What does it mean that the frame rails were "boxed" ? I have read about that and it seems some people do that for strength. On the 66's is this a factory thing or something that I may have to do someday?

I appreciate all your information!

All 3 of the 66 F-100's I've had were boxed and it sure looks like it was fab'd that way at the factory
