3/4 ton in a 66

I know a 4x4 chassis up to 1979 will readily accept the body from a 60's f-100. I have a neighbor with a blown 460 in a 82 3/4 ton pickup. Any body know how difficult it would be to swap my cab onto 3/4 chassis?

Thanks in advance

OK, lets start over.

yes I know for a fact a 65-66 F100 will bolt directly up to a 79 frame but are you asking will a 60s F100 bolt up to a 82 F250 frame?

IMHO, regardless of the possibility they will work (60s F100 to 82 F250) youre still stuck with the GDMFing TTB front axle. You COULD SAS it but by that time it would be both easier and cheaper just to find a 79 F250 frame - which you know will fit. Depending on tire size (35-36s with the blown 460) the D44HD will probably be ok. If not find a D60 front and you should be fine in the 40-42 range in stock form. Chromo that bad boy and be fine up to 44s and plenty of skinny pedal.

Pics of blown 460?

Blown as in boom! Its been sitting with no carb for 4 years. Same neighbor has a 65 3/4 4x4 ton chassis only(no sheet metal), for 150$. It looks burly compared to my 66 f-100 frame. Drawbacks there are 4.56: rearends, and closed knuckle front diff. And I dunno if the cab is even compatible with the frame there either? I guess I will just give it up and keep rolling my 64 Scout.

I do appreciate all the input from you guys I am in virgin territory when it comes to the Ford stuff. I aint never going any other now that I got this old pickup. Just wanting to make it "mine" the way I would have it if I could a choice in the perfect truck.

I think you're going to doing a bit of custom work to get that old body on the 82 frame. The frames are different widths.

Like Kris said you're going to also have the ttb to deal with on an F250. Plus side is that a d60 is pretty much a bolt in deal if you find one from a 86-97 F350 and the d60s from those years are a little cheaper/easier to find than the 70s stuff.

I'd look at that 3/4 chassis and see that would work first. jmho

The 3/4 ton chassis just looks way burly. Mega overloads on the back. I want to run a 300-6 and tires 35" or smaller, np435 trans. The Tcase is a divorced unit. The tag on the drivers side said model 34 IIRC. Anyway with tire size I want and the trans without overdrive 4.56:1 R and P would kill me to drive it daily.

I was going to put my '67 F100 2wd body on a '75 F250 4x4 chasis a few years back. I end up torching all the 2wd junk out from under my '67 and converted it to 4x4. I'm assuming thats why you are wanting to do this. I enlisted the help of a buddy, and we had my truck driving out of the shop in less than a day when I finally got around to doing the swap.

My problem was, my '67 was a shortbox, and the '75 was a longbox, and I woulda had to cut the frame, and then none of the box holes would line up, and I would have had to shim the box, the cab mounts were where they needed to be, but the radiator support wasn't. Seemed like way more work to swap bodies to me.
