i never hooked up one of these deals. im usually an exculsive holley guy but TheNomad and i did some trading.

how do you hook up the electric choke on this? i was reading somewhere that you need to hook up vaccum to take heat off of the coil? do you use switched 12v power with no resistance?

also, is the vaccum advance for the carb fitting in the front next to the pcv fitting? it seems small and my line doesnt hook up to it.

lastly, the kick down deal next to the throttle arm, do you just hook up a return spring to this and not worry about it if you are running a manual trans, or do you remove it somehow?

 

i forgot to say that ive had it running, just these 3 things are somethings i can not find in the edelbrock owners manual you get on their site.

 

Electric choke: 12V, hot-in-run. Make sure to ground it too, as these have separate power and ground terminals. You can ground it to one of the 3 housing screws.

Vacuum for taking heat off the coil: no such thing.

Vacuum advance: usually you want to run ported vacuum. There are two small vacuum ports on the front of the carburetor; the higher one is ported vacuum, as it is above the throttle plates. Manifold vacuum would be the lower one, which is of course below the throttle plates. Pretty sure these are 3/16" fittings.

Kickdown: If you're talking about the hole that I think you're talking about, then yes, you can just put a throttle return spring there. They just have some extra holes drilled in the throttle arm if you have an auto. trans and need a spot for the kickdown linkage. Set it up however you like.

 

ok....thanks, pretty much i would have done it right but the ground. good thing to know. my cousin is a pretty good mechanic and he said around 1990 he had an electric choke on his 5.0 and it wouldnt clost enough or open when it was warm. do you think this could have been from not having a good ground? i really like the idea of an electric choke but dont know anyone else that had ran one.

 

Lots of people have them (myself included) - the problem you mention could have been a poor ground, misaligned choke tang, improper choke setting...worn out choke spring.

 

I used the stator wire on my Edelbrock choke and it works fine.
The left small port next to the PCV is for the vac. advance.
If you are running a manual trans, you should be able to unbolt the kickdown linkage from the throttle linkage.
