What do you think these holes are from?

On our 51 F1 their are 9 very small holes in both doors from some kind of plack or sign or somthing. I think it might have been some kind of armed services truck because of the paint behind the seat as well as these marks on the the front lower corners of the bed. They taped off the bed signs before they painted this truck back in the late 50's so the green and the while letters are original. SO does anyone have any thoughts as to what these holes might have been for? Thanks for taking a look.

Whatever is was used for, U.6000 stenciled on the doors refers to the fact that the trucks Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is under 6,000 lbs.

This GVWR figure is required on commercial vehicles by the ICC (International Commerce Commission) back then and now.

If it's a former US military vehicle or was in some sort of Gov't service, the DSO code on the Rating Plate will reflect that.

The Rating Plate is located inside the glove box door, post what the DSO code is...myself, or someone will decode it for you

Winters. CA? I bought out all the obsolete Ford parts from the local dealer in 1977. It took several trips with 2 bobtails to haul it all.

This dealer was in a brick building in the downtown area, the owner had died, the daughter was running the place.

Ford found out and cancelled their franchise, and awarded it to the local Chrysler-Plymouth dealer.

The day before I got there (tipped by a Motorcraft jobber [Sac-Cal] in Sacramento) she had removed the original Ford porcelain and neon signs, beat them to hell, and tossed them in a dumpster.

When I told her what those signs were worth (back then, over 3 grand each, today 20 grand EZ each!), she about chit a brick!

Obsolete parts, there were over 200 new 11A V8 dizzys, fit 1941/48 V8's.

A pal had been looking for yrs for a white padded dash for his '57 Bird, they had one...it had been there since August 1956!

There were over 500 shop manuals, and all the parts catalogs back to 1908. I paid about $500.00 for it all-she set the price.

That was the best load of goodies I got out of over 300 dealers I cleaned out.

Holes

When I was in the Air Force overseas during the 60's the base pickups had some signs on them with rattle can stencils on base by G.I.'s. Squadron or Base logos on metal were made off base locally and then attached to the pickups. Hope this helps, chuck

Pretty cool truck. I actually have a '52 US Navy F-1 that I'm going to be rebuilding as well. It's missing virtually anything to tie it to it's previous life. Yours sure looks better off than mine...

Number Dummy I know that building well. I live right at the north end of that street (Railroad) just before the bridge so only 2 blocks from the old dealer ship. The old Chrystler dealer is my neighbor.
Here is all that I could make out on the Glove box tag and this is more from the impressions that visible ink.
Upper left is A L F
engine # FIRIKC17390
modle WBC

This is a great little town and their is alot of old iron still around here that pops up every now and again.

Thanks you all are helping make future history for my son when he gets older and this is his first truck. He is only 11months old now but I want it to be the old truck he remembers cruising around with dad in back when.

The DSO code will be on the lower right of the Rating Plate.

The oldest CA dealer under one ownership is Electric Garage in Woodland.

Now (at least the last time I was there) it's a Dodge dealer.

Originally it sold Studebaker......Electrics...hence the name.

Maybe it was from one of those guys that used to hang out in Ax Murder Hollow, ya know the one with a hand chopped off and replaced with a Multi-Spindle drill head on one hand and a Multi-Spindle Rivet Set on the other hand.
I'd check to see if there are any holes or odd rivets inside, hopefully tho they got away.

Seems like there would be some outline of whatever was on the outside of the door. It must have been taken off a very long time ago. Dick, were you watching scary movies last night???

Thinking outloud

Yes they came off in the early to late 50's before it was painted the darker green. Can someone post a pic of the glove box lable and were the corect #'s you want are? My lable is real warn and not much is visible so alot of it will be from left over impressions.
