1957 Land Speed Pickup
I don't know too much about this truck, but thought that it would be of interest here. This is from SCTA's May 2008 El Mirage meet.
(picture from landracing.com)
Entered by the Burns Brothers of the Gold Coast Roadsters. Ran in the "Production Pickup" class, with an "E" (184-260 cubic inches) engine.
Ran 112.106 mph on an open record (with 115.00mph minimum to qualify as a record).
The hood side appears to read "258 cu. in. Ford Y-block"
Pretty darn fast for a Y-block powered brick.

cool truck
Wow thanks for posting the photo. I'm a big fan of racing-not that I do much of it, but he's got quite a set up there. I like his 58? F100 push truck too. I think the 57 with the single headlights is my favorite. I just think its such a clean looking grill etc. I don't see all that many 57 F100. I've got a 58 and its fine. I like it. But their are a lot of headlights to buy and wires to run when you build a 58. I now am a source for anyone attempting to wire one of these 4 headlight beasts.

Well I just figured out my charging system and am now wondering how to get my high beams to work again. I love when guys have a race truck and a maintenance truck to match. I think its just cool. do you have a link to the pic I tired navigating the site and no luck finding that exact pic.

Ya You're right about that speed thing. Or at least I was wondering too. I was surprised they couldn't reach the minimum qualifying. I'm not an expert, but I read car mags etc especially salt flats Hot Rod type, and I guess don't they have to make 3 passes or something like that. And don't they average things etc, I wonder did something cause a breakdown, or was the salt damaged, or something like that. Because I too am certain that with a -what was it-258ci Y block on gasoline with big salt flat gears etc and race built and prepped. There must be some kinda handling problem or whatever that they're working on. Maybe we can get these guys to participate on this site. They're clearly big time Ford Truckers. And I'd be very interested in living my racing fantasies vicariously through them. That's the only kind of racing I can afford. Maybe someone can get in touch with them and give them a serious invite- even beg a little if necessary so that they would keep us informed as to their happenings.

A picture of a Land Speed '57 should be accompanied by a picture of an Air Speed '57 . . .

Thanks for that update. I very much appreciate it. But just so you know the address you've given doesn't actually link. I couldn't get it to function when I double clicked on it. Maybe its me. But I went directly to Youtube and copied the portion watch?v=tEb9uJXxnGg and the video came up in the search. I'm going to go back and watch it now. Thanks again.

Bonneville Speedweek 2008
They're running on the great "White Dyno!"
On Monday, first day of running, the Burns Bros ran the '57 121.022 mph, which qualified them for a Tuesday morning record run.
Tuesday, in the early morning cool (greater air density, hence higher speeds), they ran 124.635 mph.
The old record for their class was 118.759 mph, their new record (an average of the two runs) is 122.828.
