Saying Hi and looking forward to my time at this forum

If the Navy does DITY moves, and you're relocating your family, you can do it yourself and get paid for it. It's a buttpain to do, and it costs a bit up front, but it's profitable. I just did it.

Welcome to the board! I picked up a 51 F1 two years ago and it will be my sons first truck but he is only 11months right now so by the time his is old enought to work on it, it will have alot of memories for us all. I look forward to those times so I can only imagine how this truck will be for you since it was your Dad's. So if you don't mind telling us how did it come back to you after all this time?
As far as shipping you can find broakers that will find a shipper for you and this may be the best way to go since you have a special (not in a good way) truck to move. Since it does not run and with out a front axel it will not even roll it will be hard to find a transport company to do this.
Also from my family and I am sure many other thank you for your service that you are doing for our country, our family's and our friends!!

Rokcrln, thanks for the kind words. It is sort of funny how the truck came back. I originally sold the truck when I was young and newly married and needed the money. I moved to the west coast and forgot about the truck. Unkowingly my cousin bought it from the kid I sold it to, then before he could do anything with it he pasted away due to cancer. That is when I found out that the truck was sitting in a field on my uncles farm. I couldn't do anything as I was just making a living for my family. To makle a long story short, I now have a place and some extra money, so I called my uncle to see if he still had the old truck. He did, and said he would keep it for me. So now I'm headed back to Saskatchewan at the end of August to pick it up. When I get it I will be posting some pictures. Until then I'm hanging out learning, asking questions, and getting opinions on my thoughts.
Cheers

Bill, Welcome to FTE these are great people and they are a ton of help. On another note. I think with the fact that the front axle missing and the vehicle not in running condition, you will have a hard time to get the rail company to transport the truck, particularly because of the issues with loading and unloading the truck.
You would need to hire some other transport service with a pickup and trailer that would be willing to load the unit and haul it directly to you. Alternately it may be cheapest for you to rent a pickup and trailer from a rental company (if you don't have one of your own) and get the truck yourself.
Where is it located? There is a company here that advertises on the radio that they haul cars anywhere in Canada with regular trips to Vancouver.

Kusto, my first thought was getting a U-Haul car trailer and just drag it home. I don't think my Jeep GC will tow it with a 5K towing limit. My father in law does have afull size GMC van with a 350 in it. That should do it, but how much in gas will it take? I'm wondering ifI had it on a trailer if the rail would be the less expesive way to go.

I do think that rail would be the least expensive method. In fact I had a friend that had a car shipped from Ontario to Edmonton, Alberta for $1200 on Searail ( Searail - Canadian Auto Shipping Locations ). The car was running but you could give them a call, explain the situation and they may be able to accommodate you. I'm not sure if they will transport to the loading facility. They ship via truck and rail so.......maybe???

Contacted Searail, the vehicle has to be on it's own wheels and the Ebrake has to work. No luck here on both accounts. They never said it had to run. I was told to try a moving company. On to plan B. Good thing I have a few months to find a way to move it out here. I'll be burning up the email air waves.

Howdy from North Carolina, and Welcome
This is one amazing site for answers on about all you can think of truck wise. If you don't ask the question that would be dumb. Great story about Dad's old truck--so glad you will be taking it home and get it purring again. Hope you find it in good shape.
