i think i may just rebuild the one on the truck, it only needs to be on there until i build another engine, probably next summer, and it isn't like i'll be driving it every day.
Dave, you say you put a 600 cfm on a customer's vehicle. What would you recommend for our trucks? I have a 72 F100 with a 360. I know some guys prefer Holley's and others Edelbrock. I'm rarely brand loyal I just want something that works. And if I get a 4bbl carb, how much is a manifold?
I like both brands... On my own I run Holley's on anything that I will be using for a high performance type car or truck, even if it's going to be nothing but an occasional trip to the dragstrip for some bracket racing.... On my cruizer's, both cars and trucks, I prefer the Edelbrock's. The 600 with the electric choke for me has mostly been a "set it and forget it" type of carb.... I have one of the calibration kits I bought years ago and keep it stocked with a good selection of springs, metering rods, and jets... My experience has been that once you get an Edelbrock 600 (or larger on a big block) dialed in, it will hold it's tune longer.... Whatever brand you go with, make a quality fuel filter and air filter a part of the install... No carb will perform correctly for very long with dirty fuel and air going through it..... I've put a bunch of the Edelbrock 600's on 360's and 390's in trucks, with few exceptions they all perform quite well....
Hey, sorry to keep asking questions and sounding like an idiot, but do any of you know if the holley and the champion carbs that advance auto lists will fit the same manifold, or is there a different bolt pattern? The truck i have is missing the carb, so I'm not sure which one it was. It has a manual choke though, and the champion has one too, so I am thinking maybe that is what it is? I'd rather have the holley though, if it will fit, so I really just need to know if the bolt pattern is the same. Thanks.
No problem with the questions. Ask enough idiot sounding questions and you'll someday be a 'Posting Guru' like me. How do you think I got such a title. I've asked a lot of questions like "How high is up?," and "What color was George Washington's white horse?", and stuff like that. It's amazing what you can learn by asking dumb questions.
anyway, I can't remember all the details of this post but I think the bolt patterns are the same but if you're gonna go from a 2 bbl to a 4 bbl you'll need a new manifold. Look at your manifold and if there are 2 holes in it then you have a 2 bbl manifold. If I recall correctly, the 4bbl manifolds have 4 holes in them.
And if you're gonna get a new carb, why not use the eBay store Dave listed. I checked it out and if I upgrade that's what I'm gonna do.
I have a couple 2 bbl carb bodies in my garage that I pulled out of salvage yards because I was trying to find smaller jets. If you'd like I can send you one and you can rebuild it. I think I paid a $15 core fee. I had to do it because nobody sells the jets any more. After that I now just take the jets out of the carbs instead of grabbing the whole carb. There's another idea, go grub around a salvage yard.
yeah, i guess you are right
i know i have a 2bbl truck, but i'm not sure if it had the original holley or champion. I may eventually put an edelbrock performer rpm manifold and a 4bbl holley, but for now i think i'll get the original stuff. I can get the original 2 bbl for a decent price that has been factory rebuilt. I'm just not sure if it had the holley or champion, and i dont know if the two had the same bolt pattern. If they did I'll put the holley and adapt it back to a manual choke.
Thanks for the info
At one time Pep Boys had the rebuilt 2bbl carbs for $65.
Dave, another question, I put some Holley rebuilds from that eBay store on watch. They start the bidding at $99 and most have one bid at that price but reserve is not met. Any idea what the reserve on these things is?

As original it would have (only) had a Ford 2100 series 2V carburetor.
Manual chokes were used on some of these carbs thru 1969.
Ford never used Champion carbs on anything....I've never heard of or seen a Champion carb on any vehicle, Ford or otherwise.
Holley 2V's weren't used on F100/350's after 1963.
I guess the champion and holley carbs are just a replacement for the original carbs. It says it replaces the ford 2100 carbs, so I guess I'll go with the holley. I prefer holleys on everything, so I guess that is what I'll go with.
Thanks for all of the info.
