As for detroit engines, everything i know about them Warren pretty much summed up. I have always heard they get the best mileage out of the 60 series, even with the factory oil leaks

Detroit is the one modern diesel I haven't driven with a semi, I stand by my Cats both the old 4206B and the cat 475hp 6 cylinder I'm driving now I like them both versus the Cummings and Mercedes I've driven.
My dad's tandem has a 8.2 Detroit "fuel pincher" though that thing is a big POS.

ford used to own controlling shares in cummins but sold out... probably the dumbest thing they ever did

I thought they only had lile 10 percent shares, or something like that? That was pretty dumb of them to get rid of it. I can only imagine how good ford would be with a cummins from the factory!

I always thought of it this way, they make cummins swap kits into our ford trucks for a reason, but to my knowledge i dont think they make a kit to swap a powerstroke into a dodge or a chevy.

Too bad I dont know spanish, i would like to read that article you posted warren.

Heres another link - click on pickups then F250
https://www.ford.com.br/Default.asp#inicio

Here is one that somebody used google portugese translator
Translated version of http://www.cummins.com.br/cla/produtos_maxpower.asp

It mentions that the engine is Tier 3 emissions compliant but not sure where the world is at on that - is that current or good for the next round??

Very cool, I want one! With the lower hp (no idea how much torque that is in ft/lbs) it makes me think that that 3.9 would be great in a half ton, depending on the weight of it.

I didn't say low torque, I meant the torque curve and I was taking about their industrial equipment, payloaders mostly. If you weren't reving at operating rpms they don't perform as well as others. I have never driven any JD farm tractors. Just as an example to fill the bucket on a Dresser from a stockpile, you just idle in till the bucket makes contact, give it a little gas, curl the bucket back, drive in and lift up and you got a bucket full, the JD's you have to be giving it gas the whole time. I have driven some older scrappers and a backhoe and they were about the same.

I've never had a diesel engine, but have to say that if I was in the market, I would get a Cummins. The Ford IH 6.4 and the Chevy Isuzu Duramax are no doubt fine engines, but I've always had a desire for a Cummins B series diesel.

I've felt the Dodge pickup was a poor third behind GM and Ford, but that was before I went for a 600 km+ drive in a 2003 Dodge pickup 1500 4 door.

It had 122,000 kms on it, the 4.7 V8 and everything worked, it was quiet, smooth...at the end of the day I really liked it.

We were on 4 lane highways, 2 lane highways, gravel roads, roads that were old 150 year old farm wagon trails on harvested fields.

I was impressed with that old Dodge.

I have been with this company for 27 years and have done just about everything. For a few years I worked in the quarry driving whatever they told me to, mostly scrappers and payloaders but have operated track hoes, dozers and backhoes. I still like to drive a scrapper when I get the chance. Now I operated copiers, faxes, and computors.
