With the compression of a diesel, no way to vent the blow by will blow the gaskets causing oil leaks everywhere.
I have seen posts about blocking the CDR port in the intake and installing a road draft tube.
But road draft tubes usually drip oil and will have a small cloud of oil vapor exiting the tube even at idle.
Up in the Stroke forum, I have seen posts about running the road draft tube to the rear of the frame, which all but eliminates the oil cloud since it cools and let the oil condense in the tube, but I don't know if that is true or not.
ive got a 94 7.3idi oem turbo i wanted to change it a while back but the parts house didnt have one is this a dealer only part? i have never cleaned mine didnt no u had to learn something new everyday ive got 475,000 miles oops
Is there a way to bypass the CDR Valve. Maybe install an aftermarket filter or something? My truck does the same thing and im about to take a trip cross country and i dont want to have to buy fuel and oil everystop! maybe something like a valve cover filter or something. Just an idea. What do you guys think
Time for a little confession. I did away with my CDR when I put the Bank's turbo on. Ran the the vent hose from the casting that replaced the IP timing cover across the alternator and down to the bottom of the oil pan. I have noticed the vapor cloud and an occasional drip but no other problems.
so did that help? If pressure and oil comes from the CDR valve. Couldnt you just put a catch can to gather the oil in one place? If there is no cloud because it cools so much just run the line to a T fitting and have a catchcan and a filter. I dunno if it would be worth it though. All i know is there is oil being put back into my intake and it kinda frustrates me.

I did the same thing on mine and have little problems with it. I have had a couple people tell me it looks like my truck is on fire when they see the blow by coming from under the truck. It's worse after pulling somthng. You may also notice that some oils smell more than others. It drips a little bit once in a while. When I put the banks casting on I packed it with the same stuff they use in the breathers on tractors. It's kinda like steel wool. I made a plate to hold it in the housing. I suppose you could also try a clamp on filter of some kind.
i'm all new this all this . and i was just reading about how to check your air filter bolt to check for oil mist.. and was wondering where i would find the cdr on my 84 f250 6.9 diesel to check or to change.??? i check the bolt tonight and it had tiny bit of oil on the bolt... and if possible if i can get a pic of what the cdr looks like that would be great also. thank for your help..
The cdr looks just like the one posted by dave S on post #10. Depending on your setup, it will be a round tuna can shape item bolted right behind the intake or bolted on a valve cover with a hose running to the intake.
thanks you for your helpfull suggestions. i drive a 84 ford 250 6.9 diesel 4x4 3/4.. i think its right behind its like a tuna can size??? also how again do you know if its bad? and what to use to clean it?? thanks for looking
