Can I fix my LEAKING EBPV??

Of course I never get a break- after I rebuilt my turbo about 2-3 weeks ago, the damn EBPV is now leaking like a sieve from the piston rod. This morning I had two nice streaks under the truck where oil ran down the tranny. Is this serviceable, or do I need to locate another pedistal? At this point I'd rather use a EPBV delet pedistal, but I don't know if they eve3n have that for the early 99, as the wife gives me so muc ****** over upgrading......

UPDATE- as I'm tearing the turbo out- and I don't know how because I fix aircraft and have never crashed one yet- all 4 bolts holding the damn exhaust housing to the middle are loose or missing(top 2 are totally out, I recovered one). I used threadlocker and tightened them to what I thought was good enough. I guess I need to tighten them even more- anyone have an actual torque for these bolts??

Also, the turbo wheel is kinda hard to turn. I HOPE I don't have to rebuild that damn thing again. Especially on this weekend- there no where to get parts from.

I love this truck but sometimes I just want to ..........

Well I got good news, and bad news- I got the turbo out and after I tightened on of the bolts to put it back together, the shaft spins freely. However, there is a good bit of radial play. Not enough to where the compressor contacts the housing, but enough to where I'm concerned.

Is there an acceptable amount of play on these things??

I took it apart and flip-flop the two brass bushings, as one has about a few thousandths more play that the other.

I guess I gotta rebuild it, but for right now she's going back in with fingers crossed. Maybe I can just convince the wife I need a D66 LOL

wow, I'm probably at .010 using my calibrated eyeball. I wonder who would have a rebuild kit on a sunday?? Damn this sucks....

I think for now I'm gonna have to stick it back in the way it is and hope that oil in the bushings will keep it good enough to where it won't wear too fast. I guess I can rebuild it AGAIN on thursday as I gotta go to work on wednesday.

Is it possible for the shaft itself to get worn out, even though the brass bushings should go first?

it will tighten up when its in the truck..oil will fill the void..i think thats how Ford measure the play....i wouldnt think you hurt the shaft as long as it still spins nice and freely...not sure where you can get parts on a sunday..probly no where till tursday...

The axial play (in and out) is .00005 to .001, which means, it's nothing you can feel. The radial play, i believe the maximum you can get before hitting the housing is .010 or so. Usually the max radial play is .006 to .008, probably around .004 or so on a new, bushed turbo. How many miles do you have on your rebuild.. didn't you just rebuild the damn thing?

"honey, i told you that i was going to need a new turbo... i tried to save some money here by rebuilding it, and see, it's too far gone for rebuilding, because i just rebuilt it, spending money and time on it... and now im in the same boat as i was before.. I could keep doing this, or you could just let me break down and buy the Dominator turbo once, and be done with it".
