Started doing some body work on the 51

<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1> <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->
Well after work today a friend (my HS auto shop teacher from 22 years ago) stopped by to bring me an assortment of body hammers, a slapper and a general purpose dolly. And after a little of him showing me not to be scared to hit it I got one rear fender (the worse one) and the roof about 50% done. I really liked making some noise and getting a few dents out. I got rid of the fear of not being able to do it. and hope to have it roughed in be next week.

At least I have verry little rust to fix.

I will post a few pictures in the next few days, Mike

Truck looks to be quite rust free......... I did notice in one pic if I turned my head just right and squinted some I thought I saw a mark, possibly a chip, in the paint though LOL

I have been really happy in its condidtion after I got all it paint off. It has some rust from the toe kick to the rib in front of the seat but that is no big deal in the big picture.

Mike,
You might want to check out some of my posts on doing bodywork for hints and tips on using your newly aquired tools and most importantly how NOT to cause further problems.

OWWW, MY EYES........you coulda warned a guy about the welding pictures. LOL.

Always a good idea to start with baby steps and then really get into it when you pick up momentum and you will become an unstoppable force that will be jonseing for another project after this one is done......Keep up the good work Mike.

Tool late.......Isn't this the support group? FTE - Ford Truck Enonymous????

I have a racecar fab shop so the frame etc. is the easy part but I never laid claim to being a bodyman. I have to find time in between my two jobs to work on my stuff but working in my shop pays for everything I want to do to my truck and all of the tools to do it. I am going to put a few pictures of the last aluminum interior we did in the shop and a rool cage and headers I did for a 41 Willis on my webshots page if you want to take a look. I built the body for my last dragster out of .040 aluminum but other than the top (that took some time) it was all flat panels with a few step rolls and a 90* radius bend at the bottom. My Dad on the other hand was a verry good bodyman that owned a body shop when I was growing up but my extent of body work then was sanding and we all know how much fun that is. So I went the other way being an Auto tech then after 15 years of doing that I got my current job as an auto tech instructor (now I get to teach the kids I was 20+ years ago)

But enough rambling I started cleaning today with some Ospho, I was told I could prime directly over it have any of you done it and if so any issues yet like paint pops or lifting? I am trying to get any surface rust killed before priming. I also found some primer that has zink in it and it is supposed to seal the metal and any surface rust you have.
