backspacing and other confusing wheel/tire stuff

ive got an 04 fx4 with nitto terra grapplers (325/60/18) on stock rims. i have a leveling kit on it but with those wide tires i am rubbing on the control arm and have very little rub on other various object in the well. i wanted to get new wheels. what offset and back spacing do i need that could help out my situation. also, i saw another f150 with a body lift and it looked like it raised the control arm... was i seeingthis correctly? and owuld that help? as a cheaper way besides a suspesion lift.

a body lift will give you quick tire clearance, but it has nothing to do with the control arms. if you get aftermarket wheels, you need one with less backspacing than stock.... stock is about 5.5" BS..... i can tell you that i am running the same exact tires, and with a leveling kit and running wheels with 5" BS, i had to do minor trimming on the front bumper valance.... and i mean very minor trimming. if you found a set of wheels with around 4.5" of BS, you would probably be fine.

Moto Metal 951's +30 offset I think it works out to around 6" bs with 325/60/18 Pro Comp X All Terrains on a 2.5" leveling kit only rub is on the mudflap when I turn really sharp.

It also depends on the width of your rim. You can't just throw offset and backspacing numbers out there without specifying what wheel width you are talking about. On my 06 with a 2.5" leveling kit I run a 295/70/17 Toyo MT on a 17x9 with 5"BS/0 Offset and had to trim about 1/8 of an inch from the lower part of the bumper valance to get rid of a very occasional rub at just the right turning.

The 17x9 Moto Metal 951's are 4.5" BS and -12mm offset, not 30mm. They will stick out considerably farther than stock. Depending on tire size you can be fine as far as rubbing, I know guys that run that setup with 33x12.50x17's with 2" leveling kit, but they don't look as good in my opinion. As for talking to the shop, just tell them what tire size and truck you have and they should be able to steer you in the right direction. You don't need to tell them both backspacing and offset, as they are proportional to each other. That is the only option in that size 951 anyway.

Yes you have to go to 18" or 20" to get plus offsets. I could not find a nice 17" wheel with the offset I wanted so it costs alot more to go to the 18" rim and tire.
