converting to serpentine belt

I M TRYING TO CONVERT MY '85 351 TO SERPENTINE BELT DRIVE (also installing. radiator fan} DID A LITTLE LOOKING AT A JUNK YARD LAST FRIDAY ,BUT WAS NOT SURE WHAT I NEEDED.
LAST WEEK I POSTED A REQUEST FOR PHOTOS ON THE "ENGINE FORUM" --NO RSPONSE.
DOES ANYONE HERE HAVE CLOSE UP PICTURES OF THE BELT DRIVEN COMPONENTS AND BRACKETS OF A 351 OR 302 (v BELT OR SERPENTINE)?
I have 3 alternators ,no a/c compressor yet, several serpentine pulleys with a cameo front clip and GM steering column(need GM power steering pump) on my 48 f1. The guy at the junk yard was totally confused and no help. that is why I need all the pictures I can find. Help I'm confused.

I can run out and take a pic of a V belt 302 for you but.....it is completely different setup than a sepentine belt.....if I remember correctly the water pump has to be changed if you go to a sepentine belt.... it rotates the other way.... are you swapping to an electric fan as well?

Hope this helps its a 5.0 Mustang you can delete the smog pump.
You can use a explorer front pump and accesories they have a shorter nose. But remember the pump I believe is reverse so you will need to replace the whole front of the engine.

THANKS I read somewhere that the water pump had to be replaced but didn't know why. am changing from a clutch fan to elect from salvage yard. The article also said it was necessary to change the timing cover and the harmonic balance. Can any one tell me who those reo9lacements?r

Yes the water pump needs to be changed because it turns the oposite way of a V belt. This also meens the rad inlet and out let will be off. You can have a rad made or run the hoses up down and around to work if you have the room. The 302 parts will work but if I remember right the a/c bracket needs to be cut and extended because the 351 is wider then the 302. The balancer does need to be changed becuase the v belt is a 3 bolt and the serp is a 4 bolt if I remember right. Make sure the balancer comes off a motor with the same imbalance as yours or it will vibrate alot! The timming chain cover I think has mounting flanges and stand offs for the serp set up that you wil need. You best bet is go to a pick-n-pull and strip off the front of a 5.0 musatang and take every part and bolt. I think the 5.0 has the same imbalance as the 351's but double check first.
I have done several conversions and it is not that much work and well worth it.

I put a serpentine system on my 289, It came off a 87 302.
I used the timing cover, waterpump, and the alt off of the 302, also got a balancer for the 302 for the correct distance. Yes the water pump is a reverse rotation.

That looks great! You spent some time cleaning up those cast brackets.

I wanted just to glass bead them then clear coat, but after the glass bead there were to many flaws so I painted and clear coated them.
We'll see how they hold up
