Well, it states that the SD series 09 Job#1 is 7/21/08. That's gonna be hard to due since the plant is running only 1 shift in June and August and is completely shut down for the whole month of July!!

This was announced Thursday afternoon on the local news. 2 weeks of vacation and 2 weeks of unemployment for the workers. I guess with diesel over $4 a gallon, SD sales are slow.

Great info, thank you! I like the 36 gallon fuel tank option. I don't know why I would need it, I can't hold my water that long on a trip!

I wonder if they will increase the horsepower& torque for both the 5.4L 3v & 6.8L 3v engines in Super Duty for '09? I heard the V10 was supposed to get an increase a few months ago. Probably just rumor rather than fact, however after viewing this info.

Wow all the way to 3.15 gears. I guess no more 4.10?

Thanks for posting some new info. It's nice to see some of the preliminary specs. The 4x4 cab height has increased almost 1-inch to 76.4 inches.

I hope the order guides come out by next weekend since the order bank is supposed to open May 16.

3.15 just seem way too high to me. I have 3.55 in my truck and I sure would like something lower. I can't believe that they would get rid of the 4.10. That would also severely decrease the towing capacity, which is something that all of the big three are trying to be tops at right now.

My 1978 Ford pickup with 300 inch six came with a 2.75 rear axle and a .7-.8 O/D ratio in the 4-speed overdrive. It really needed about a 3.25 at least.

My 1986 GMC van with a wimpy 305 engine had no O/D and a turbo 350 with a lockup torque converter. It came with a 2.73 axle ratio and it was just pathetic. I put in a posi and had the ratio changed to 3.42.

Between the new EPA ratings, and the need to advertise--AND GET the "best economy in class" they gotta do something quick. At least with the 6-speed auto they'll be able to launch the things...

IMO it would make sense to lose about 1500 lbs of weight and get back to making trucks instead of gigantic fat limousines with pickup beds... Game is over for selling lots of trucks to people who don't need them.

The SD Job 1 date listed in the guide is incorrect. '09 SD Job 1 was recently pushed out to 08/04/08...

The only confirmed shut down I am seeing for KTP at this time is the week of 06/02/08...

Everthing is still showing that the order bank is going to open on 05/16/08, so the order guide should be available the same day. Order guide(s) are usually released on the same day as the order bank opens...

The axle gearing is fine, when you look at the ratios in the transmission. Holy crap that thing is going to launch fast, HP for HP, compared to the current line-up.

It shouldn't hurt the towing either. Didn't ford say that it would be increased for 09?

That's what local officials said on the news. Shut down the whole month of July.

I live about 20 minuted away from both Ford plants here in Louisville. The SD Ky. truck plant and the Fern Valley Rd. Sport-Trac plant.
They are going to build a new vehicle in the Fern Valley plant in 2010 I think they sad, but are hush hush about what it is going to be. Something new I believe.

I have no doubt that you heard/saw what you did and it is probably right. It is just part of the constant change in schedule at the end of one model year and the beginning of the next. The last change I saw in the schedule was about 2 weeks ago when the last day of order for '08 SD's was changed from 05/30/08 to 06/06/08 and Job Last was changed from 07/03/08 to 07/31/08. So it looks like there is another change coming...

I too have heard rumors of somthing new going to LAP...

I'm sure with the economy slowing and fuel prices so high, many schedules will be changing. The Focus builders will probably be working overtime while the SD folks are sitting at home.

ford will give ya a nice tranny and then screw you w/ the rear end gears... it's been their main tactic for good mpg for a while now. they don't seem to realize most people get better MPG with bigger gears tho... and that they shoot themselves in the foot when toyota compares the two trucks in their mighty acceleration tests...
