Oil filter leaks

When I first got my truck it leaked a little around the oil filter and since then I have changed the oil and filter and it still leaks a little around where the filter is. I have cleaned really well and made sure the gasket was removed from the base before I put on the new filter...Any Ideas on how to fix it?

at the risk of sounding stupid, did you overtighten it, as in use a filter wrench and really torque it down? sometimes it will leak that way as much as if you don't tighten it enough. just a thought.

I hand tighten the filter all I can, then one complete turn tighter with a filter wrench.

Any less and mine leaks like a sieve.

Are your sure its the oil filter and not the oil filter/ cooler manifold that bolts to the block. You may want to make sure its not leaking up higher. Also, Look closly at the base where the filter gasket screws on and make sure its not pitted out or cracked. Just a suggestion. Good luck

VOM FSeries/Econoline Owners guide 7.3 Liter Diesel

Clean the filter mounting area of the oil cooler, lightly coat the gasket surface with clean engine oil and hand tighten until gasket contacts the base. THEN TIGHTEN ANOTHER....... 1 1/4 to 2 TURNS. Fill the crankcase and check for leaks.
