EFI pump lifespan

What's the useful life on efi fuel pump? The pump in question has been in my '92 since somebody on the Ford assembly line put it there. I think its only been run empty once, which I hear is bad on the pump. But, its been pumping for 185xxx miles. Am I running on borrowed time or should I not worry about it? Thing is, I'm planning a loooong road trip later this month and don't want to have my pump crap out halfway up the Alcan highway.

Electric pumps usually die when you turn them off and they stop in a bad spot in the winding. it's hard to predict if and when they will die.
Sister in-laws 93 Mark VIII is original @ 218K and still runs like a striped ape to 6000rpm shift point.
I wouldn't worry about it myself.
