I just did this job on my '96 F-350. I did mine by dropping the tanks. Best tip would be make sure the tanks are empty or drain before dropping. Make sure you have the right Quick Disconnect tools - other than that it was pretty straight forward. Taking off the bed IMO would have maybe been slightly easier - maybe not. I would have had to remove my tool box, the hitch, and you are still disconnecting the fuel filler necks for the hoses, plus all the wiring harnesses. Sixes in my opinion.
