They make circuit breakers that just plug right into the fuse slot. Not something to use permanently but a good hobble home fix!

Well, start whispering. went to the parts store, got a pack of five of these 15 amp fuses. with the truck off or on, within about five seconds of plugging them in, it blows the fuses. they are all the same as the fuse i had in there, and are what the owner's manual calls for.
My only thought is i have a short somewhere in the system. it's the number 8 fuse, in the box on the dash. your panel cover should have the systems it goes to.
Any thoughts on where i might find my short, or what else it could be? woudl the keyless do this tim?
thanks guys!

Yes the keyless could/would do it. #8 rings a bell. Unplug it and see what happens then

Nope just replace it. I got one from a salvage yard for $50. They are common to many models so it should not be too bad to find one. With it unplugged your door locks and dome lights won't work though. perhaps a few other things as well.

Alright. I can live with that until i find another. i think i'll rip it apart just for fun if it is the problem. Will one from any ford of that model year work? or does it have to be a truck or even a stroker?

I think mine came out of a Taurus but the yard did the interchange. Oddly enough about 3 weeks after I replaced it the second went out. Got yet another one but for free!

Stole this from a thread from a few months ago. it was on programming, but has the pic.

The larger circle, labeled brain, all three plugs on it, right?

Ok, Again thank you for all your help TJ!
I unplugged those three plugs, and put a new fuse in, and it's running like a champ and shifting right again. speedo and odo are working as well.
Will have to find RKE unit, but that i can do!
