Gotta 02 3.0 L and been thinking about doing side exit exhaust. Now first, I know its not going to sound top notch, its no V8. Just want a nice mellow tone, nice little rumble, no rice fart can. Was thinking about just getting a muffler and making the rest myself. Had my mind on Borla and a couple others.. Any suggestions or opinions?
Borla and gibson are both excellent choices. Borla tends to be a bit pricey, where as gibson is a little cheaper. Get the gibson dual sport, both pipes exit from the same side. I had it on my 04 4.0 ranger, a real quality piece with a nice low rumble and no drone. It had a good throary sound even on a V-6. Someone's bound to bring up flowmaster, let me warn you that the 40 series will drone inside the cab at around 2,500-3,000 RPM's, the 50 series doesn't.
Droning is where the sound of the exhaust starts resonating through the vehicle, actually amplifying the sound. While this might sound good to some people, believe you me, it will drive you insane. You can get a similar sound by driving on the noise strips on the side of the highway.
The Flowmaster 50 series is an excellent choice. It doesn't drone. You might want to take a look at the Wickedflow SC series as well, they have a nice deep tone to them and don't drone.
