2008 F250 homelink question

I have a crew cab with electronic door locks, security system and homelink in the visor.
By chance the other day I pressed the homelink button the other day with the truck off and it opened the garage door. All of the other vehicles I have had, the ignition needed to be on for the garage door remote to be enabled.

I opened the driver's side window, got out of the truck, locked the truck with the keyfob, and then reached in the window and pressed the homelink button - the garage door closed.

Does anyone know if this is how it should work, or it there is a setting that I can change?
Thanks,
bb

Mine's the same way. I don't think it can be changed.

Thanks

Thanks, I was hoping that it could be, but figured it was a long shot. I guess when I take off on trips and leave my truck outside I will unplug the garage door openers .

The homelink in the visors gets it's power from the same wire as the vanity mirrors, so it is powered all the time. If you need to disable it you could just pull the fuse for the vanity mirrors (not sure what number it is on the 08s).

Link it to an upfitter switch - make it just confusing enough for someone breaking into your truck, but convenient for you.

Wink

Or rewire it so it isn't always hot. However, that might be a problem as it may need to be "live" all the time to keep the memory of the opener codes. You might try contacting them on this.

HomeLink; Home automation,Wireless control system, universal transceiver, RF control, Home security, smart home, vehicle to home, home automation, remote control lighting and home control

all of the homelinks ive encountered keep their codes in a static (maybe flash would be a better word) memory so the battery can be disconnected and the codes dont need to be relearned. thats how it was on my land rover and it didnt work when the key wasnt in.

Most garage door openers have a lock feature on the indoor switch (button) this disables all outside openers. you could use that when you go on a trip.
