Dealer scanned for codes and got one saying to update/ reprogram PCM??
Took the truck to the dealer today to have it scanned since I was having problems wit a miss and CEL, turned out I have a failing ICP sensor. Anyway I got it running so i still took it in to make sure that was the problem. well there was no code for the ICP but I had a code for #4 cyclinder missfire and a code for and update reprogram of the PCM....I have never heard of this before? they say that it needs a reprogram for better injector control and better power, my guestion is do I really need this if Im running a DP-Tuner? I dont want to spend over $100 for a reprogram if its all going to be overridden by the DP...or would it help?

the codes were P0603 and P0605, cant remember which one is which. I asked about the reprogram with a chip, they use the same PCM pot as the DP so it would have to be off when/ if they did it. I have 126000 on the truck, dont think I need any new injectors just the ICP sensor, because is leaking oil into the electrical plug. I think the oil was shorting the sensor and causing the miss, because as soon as I unplugged it the truck strated and ran fine with no miss but I didnt sound all the great, so I cleaned the oil from the ICP plug and plugged it back in and its been running fine since then. Ill be replaceing the ICP soon though. Im not sure what all tests they ran, but they had it back there hooked up for a good half hour running the diag.

P603 Internal Control Module KAM Error - normal for a chipped truck
P605 Internal Control Module ROM Error - not sure about this one, but htis could be why they want to reflash it.
here is a link to codes for the 7.3L

You might change the ICP sensor then see how it goes from there.

MD1 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P0605
DTC P0605 exists only when there has been an internal failure of the powertrain control module (PCM).
Rerun Scan Tool Diagnostic Test.
Is DTC P0605 retrieved?
Yes
INSTALL a new PCM. CLEAR DTCs and RETEST.
No
System OK. CLEAR DTCs and RETEST.
I'd give Jody & Diane a call on this one. This could just be the Ford computer not recognizing Jody's tunes. I wouldn't let the dealer re-flash anything. If you need any type of re-flash just let Jody do it.

It's not the PCM having trouble with the tunes. It's the Ford diagnostic scanner not recognizing Jody's tunes as a standard Ford product.
Again this is just a guess on my part. Jody or Diane could tell you for sure. I wouldn't let Ford reflash the PCM. If Jody thinks there's an issue he'll let you know. If not, he'll tell you to ignore it.
