Truck died while driving.... CPS? Help..

Ok,

twice now in 2 days my truck has for no reason simply died while driving down the road. The worst was today when it happened in the fast lane on the highway.

The strange thing is that it has started back up again after this happened.

Could this be the CPS on the brink or am i looking at something else? What would cause a totally un-modified 2002 7.3 (except 4"exhaust) with only 62,000 to just shut off while driving?

i sold my wife on us getting this truck because of its track record of reliability. (the incident on the highway above happened while she was driving it, not good..)

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated guys.

Thanks in advance.

Ryan

Sounds like CPS to me. I have a 2002 and it done it on Me when I had about 65 to 70 thousand miles on it.

If you have the original CPS that's sure what it sounds like to me. I was able to restart mine for a couple of days before I finally gave up and found this site.

Hmm, only 62k, I think you truck is shot and you need to get rid of it. Just because I'm a nice guy, you can drop it off by the house and I will get rid of it for you.
Or, you could just stop by your local Ford dealer and have them install a new CPS for free under the recall and make it run like new.

Did the rest of the truck shut off too? Like you took the key out? If the radio, lights, etc shut off then you have a different problem. If it was just the engine it is probably the CPS.

Sounds like CPS, mine did the same thing, smoked a lot after dying but did eventually restart. If its not the CPS, you will have a spare cause it will eventually go out if it is the older black version.

Crap, I guess that means you're not going to be bringing it to me to dispose of for you.

Not just yet Barry. Give me another 10 years or so with this truck, and we can talk after that.
