Welcome to (FTE)!
You will need to buy your headers for 73-79 the frames on these trucks are
the same up front! I have not install any headers on the 351m/400 ! But you
search some of the old posts you should turn up a lot. When you search
keep in mind you will be looking for info on headers for 65-66,67-72,73-79, so
you may want to check out posts in those forums also!
P.s. heres a link to my gallery take a look at the crossmember that I modded.

I really dont think theres nothing wrong with having to dimple one of the tubes, as long as you use the side of a big socket and tap it easy a little at
a time, the headers will still flow very good.
P.S. now on a set of headers that are ( TUNED ) I would really try not to
dent them, if you dont need to!

I have a 61 merc on a 63 frame (unibody). I was having the same issues with headers and steering. I have a 460/c6 combo in the truck.
What I found that worked best is a set of hooker headers from 88-94, they fit very tight to the engine, and the drivers side runs almost under the tranny. I did not have to heat and bend any thing, and there is all kinds of room.
Hope this helps a little, don't be scared too try headers from other years of trucks, all demensions and measurement are available on line for most quality headers

Don't believe you will be able to install headers w/ a Bendix box. If recall, Sanderson Headers will make to fit.
Sanderson Headers - Custom Built Headers
Have a 390 in one of my 65's with Hedman long tubes, and another 65 with a 302 and using Hooker long tubes. Only issue was on passenger side crossmember, had to remove minimal amount of material to increase flange clearance. Also, had to lift engine slightly, and if recall, remove starter to install. Used Hedman offset extentions to get around the tranny crossmember issue. Intend going with Pro-Streets model when I replace mufflers, which should be soon, way too loud.

i was hoping you had the y-block in your truck... i was going to say reds headers..i ordered a set from them... and the drivers side clears everything...
the only problem i had with the company was... the fact that they sent me to driver sides... i called them up and they are sending me a new one back...
